Am I the only one who has low expectations for Autechre's next album? Untilted and Quaristice were weak compared to their pre-2005 discography, let's face it.

I don't have super high expectations, I thought Untilted and Quaristice were both solid but nothing compared to their late 90s/early 2000s output. That said, I'd love to be proved wrong, and if anyone can reinvent themselves, they can.

after long analysis, quaristice was just them noodling around with new techniques.

this album will be more produced.

maybe since its their 10th lp to be released in '10, it will be all binary. or maybe they will experiment with binaural sound techniques. or maybe we shouldn't speculate...

My 2¢ on recent output: I really liked Quaristice when it first came out but my appreciation for it has really fallen. I'd say its pretty uninspired and feels like a bunch of tracks they cooked up live over the years. Untilted is still pretty crap in my opinion. Thats never changed and I don't think it ever will. I'm going to listen to it right now just to make sure.

I was sort of "meh" about Quaristice when it first came out. Probably since I was so used to the epic length, exploratory feeling of their other tracks. I assumed since the tracks were so short that they were sort of leftover ideas and table scraps from their last albums or something. When you see short track lengths, you think it has to be sort of poppy and grab your attention for that short time span, but these were still pretty intense.

But the more I listened, the more I realized the insane level of detail. And the fact that the Versions and Quadrange put the music under a microscope and really stretched it out into something else altogether made me love it more. It's a good way to see how many ideas they can come up with and how they can develop something so small into something so sprawling.

Maybe their next album will be made the same way, but even more refined. Where they jam out for a while, and edit it down to the juicy bits. What coolness!

If I were to attempt I would need a machinedrum, a monomachine, a decent mic, a quadraverb unit, a 202, a bunch of FX pedals, a decent mixer god knows what else and about 10 years of practice. And even then it would be half arsed..

 

Thinking about it, there were no fakes for Quaristice that I remember.. definitely some for Untilted though. Made by a forum member too if memory serves..?

 

After listening to Quaristice, Untilted and Glasgow set alot lately, I have absolutely no preconceived expectations about how the next release will sound. Their recentish output is so varied (in a good way). Hope there are some ae style acidy bits.

Thought about this last night:

Perhaps the reason why there's been no word/promotion from Warp about this album is because it isn't gonna be put through Warp. With their little 2010 tour, perhaps it's gonna be a tour-exclusive CD? If so perhaps (FINALLY) a version of their live set?

That's total speculation and I doubt that would happen cos they've always been pretty loyal to Warp, but who knows?

It just occurred to me that there could conceivably be a release from AE, AFX, SP, and BoC this year, which hasn't happened in a long while.

I understand the rumblings of BOC, AE and AFX but SP??!? where have these rumblings been brought up :P^_^ links to show suspicion would be nice.
