Guys I'm kind-of shitting myself here. This is the first Autechre album that I'll witness the release of.

 

But I'm a poor teenager, I can't afford 60 dollar vinyl. I can afford a 22 dollar copy of Draft, but not a 60 dollar copy of Oversteps.

I'm really considering preordering this, but don't I'm not sure if I want to shell out the $60+ for shipping to the US and for vinyl considering I don't have an accessible vinyl player (though I'd love to own a vinyl, we have a player in storage). FFuuck, so looking forward to it either way.

That is an AWESOME cover! It feels so old fashioned... and reminds me of when electronic music used to be mysterious and cool. It actually reminds me of old Underworld album covers, so it just takes me back to when I first started getting into electronic music.

But I suspect that, as with Untilted and Quaristice, I'm gonna get totally sucked into the hype, and then I'll be disappointed with the actual music, and never even end up buying it, only previewing the tracks on Bleep.

That mix sound very autechreish to my ears and very nice indeed, what a sad cunt it must be who made it if is fake (such a wast of rare talent)!

ok in my defense, that cover is clipped off on the left hand side on the site, and the picture is of a homeless shelter I stayed at during the summer of 2008. It's personal in other words. A white background with a circle in the middle would have been preferable? come on.

Just got an email response from Bleep support saying that the vinyl will be available at American retailers, but w/o the HQ wav files (still has the 320 mp3s) :)

my guess is that there are only these two hard copy versions, deluxe (as in audiophile 180g) vinyl and the cd.

theres nowhere it says the vinyl is limited edition, no?

and I think bleep is just charging you for the wav and mp3 handling.

new cds are usually ~12 £ at bleep aren't they?

i really think that things like tri repatae - as simple as that is - it really suits the music in a way that something more strictly analogous to the sound of the album doesn't. they've always done this too really - it's more about a subtle atmospheric context to the album with the choice of colour and type more than anything.

 

i mean, garbage and anvil vapre haven't fared too badly - but they definitely date those EPs to the era they were created in. whereas tri repatae even with similar images on the inside is a lot more timeless and... elegant.

Well said. None of their artwork has ever blown me away, but it does what it needs to do. It works and leaves many things to the imagination.

On the topic of album artwork, I think the Chiastic Slide album cover is pretty timeless and suits the ablum very well.

nope, doesn't say that the vinyl is a limited edition, but you can bet that there probably won't be another pressing of this. or if there is, it'll be standard vinyl in a standard sleeve without the poster.
