i would like it if you could turn on real physics and stuff collapsed if it didn't have enough support. surely all my creations would fall over but it would be cool

Most of mine would probably be ok, it's difficult for me to make something not structurally sound or supported. The pirate boats might sink though, lol.

Game would have to be programmed from scratch to have the physics mechanisms in there. It could work, but today we still don't have enough computer strenght to have it work properly in a big world like Minecraft's. If it were small isolated islands that would have 1000 blocks max, it might work.

i don't think it's beyond our computing capabilities. the game loads and displays in chunks now, they would just have to be more complicated chunks. people may have to decrease draw distance.

i think it would be fun but obviously it would be a separate game entirely. would love to see what would happen if real physics was instantly applied though. would be like armageddon in murvtown

How would we make blocks move when they are voxel-organized? It would need to be a whole new system.

Then again that gravel block falls smoothly yes?

Gravel and Sand blocks, yea. But each individual block has to be supported. To have like say, buildings, roofs or caves stay upright there would have to be some kind of method that makes it so blocks stay floating based on how heavy they are and how far away they are from some kind of wall or support.

I'm too stupid to even imagine a good enough system.

I also can't program anything. I just

well yeah, the game would have to calculate how "sticky" the blocks are, that is how many you can build horizontally without a vertical support. things like dirt would only he able to be like 3 wide whereas stone structures would be stronger, so you could stick more together horizontally.

the only thing i want added to minecraft is the ability to break up the blocks into 8 or 16 smaller blocks, though that would probably make even the most advanced nasa supercomputer crash.
http://youtu.be/eQMBGLMtdFE I think this would be the one improvement I'd like. Physics. Might even entice me back into the game!

WOAH

I think that promo is by the DEFCON/Darwinia guys. Fantastic game development company.

And oOOo, I have no idea. I haven't looked into it much yet. I really want to play it as well.

thread seems abandoned, and world size was 2048x1024x64 (no chunks)

that guy would have had serious speed issues writing a chunk system in a BASIC

I'm looking around, but it's looking hopeless. This is all I could find.

Apparently an old build, but I haven't gotten it to work. There is a config file though

Thread isn't THAT dead. There hasn't been a post since the beginning of the month. Maybe their main site is just down.

In the latest house I build I've been experimenting with a new way (anyway new for me) to access the mine : a long hole in which you can jump. There's water at its bottom, and a ladder on one side so you can go back home quickly. Convenient and funny. Also this way is a good one to travel throughout the house (when you're going down obviously). I really like that ^^
