Well there's a lot of companies solely dedicated to hosting Minecraft servers, I'd just set up an account with them and set up a new server for WATMM. Really I just need to know how many people will be playing on it (if I remember there was no more than ten people at a time, but if we need more I'll look into some more options) and for someone who knows a bit more about Minecraft then I do to tell me how much RAM I would need. For everyone else, it'd just be add a new server on their list and business as normal.

New Minecraft server is up and running!

The maximum player slots have gone down to 24 and there's only 768mb of RAM on the server, but this should be fine for the amount of people here playing at once.

For anyone connecting, the new IP is 37.59.188.114:25575

Right now I'm running it as a test server (as I barely know what I'm doing and need to test the reliability of the host) and will restart the map at 1.3 so we don't miss out on any updates.

If you want to play, please PM me your Minecraft username so I can add you to the whitelist. I would add all the people I can remember but I've forgotten most of your names, sorry. (On this note, could someone try to connect and confirm the whitelist is working?)

thanks, though I'm on a as-little-as-possible-computer-games self-therapy. If I'm lucky I won't show up.

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.

The single/multi-player merge has added the possibility to share your single-player worlds with friends who are on the same local network. It has also enabled players to use multi-player-like commands in single-player (such as /gamemode and /give), but only if cheats are enabled.

sorry bud .

fucking lame

The single/multi-player merge is something they've done to make their own coding easier (previously they had to code some features twice, separetely for single and multi-player). So the point of it is to make adding new features easier in the future. On its own it doesn't really mean a lot to players, (except the opportunity to share single player over a lan).

yay, who are you using for hosting?

I've got a little private server running with Nitrous Networks - £5 a month and allows up to about 8 players.

There are a whole load of little companies offering Minecraft hosting - an ecosystem in itself- see here:

Currently using BeastNode.com as a host, seems to be working pretty well for the moment. I think it works out to around £7 a month (can't remember the exact $ to £ ratio), which is a bit more than other companies but they offer a few extras such as free mumble and subdomain hosting. Took forever to select a host though, the amount of choice in Minecraft hosting is insane.

Cool. I think all the hosts overestimate how many players you can get for X amount of RAM.

I was running a small server I built myself on Amazon EC2 at some point, and with 512Mb RAM it could only handle about 6 players. It would crap-out with out-of-memory errors if more than that happened.

So the 24-player limit you have may be too optimistic, but generally kokoons watmm server rarely had more than 4 or 5 people on so you should be OK.

Has the map from Kokoon's server been saved? I'd like to have a copy for single player, for memories sake. I had a couple of creations I'd like to never forget.
