Cool. I think all the hosts overestimate how many players you can get for X amount of RAM.

I was running a small server I built myself on Amazon EC2 at some point, and with 512Mb RAM it could only handle about 6 players. It would crap-out with out-of-memory errors if more than that happened.

So the 24-player limit you have may be too optimistic, but generally kokoons watmm server rarely had more than 4 or 5 people on so you should be OK.

Yeah I expected this. I really can't see the server being able to handle more than 10 people at a time, but it was pretty rare for that many people to play it, so I'm hoping we wont see any problems. Not having any additional plugins (although it is running Bukkit) also helps a lot with not straining the server.

don't sweat it for a second, dude. you hosted a server with a map that ended up in the gigabytess for a coupla years, put up with our bullshit, and were responsible for a lot of fun. you're a saint.

Oh yeah sorry about the statue, that was my fault.

There was a portal inside it, surrounded by wool, that was deactivated. I tried to re-light the portal and clicked in slightly the wrong place.

If everyone gets impatient we could just start a snapshot map. A snapshot is the most recent update from mojang. Could just be me getting impatient tho.

Regarding the snapshot map, if enough people want to do it, I don't mind updating the server and starting the new map early. How much different is it from what will be the final 1.3 build? I'm just worried that if a lot still needs to be done, we could run into problems with the map when 1.3 comes about.

I'm not sure mate. I doubt it will be drastically different.

Since the most important thing in any settlement is snow golems, I made the first shop in town a snow golem shop and filled the place with snow golems. The town is becoming really nice also. I encourage everyone to join and not be afraid of the reset. The main fun is in creating stuff, not watching the creations.

don't sweat it, let's just go with this map. 1.3 is only a few weeks away, no point in doing two resets in the interim.

Yea I would. I don't know when/if I will ever join. But if I do it'd be on a whim, and I'd like to be prepared.

Someone pm me the server IP and such too please. The names 33... murve33.

Also, someone please seed the old map at some point. I definitely want that. Too many memory lanes within Murveton that I know I'll end up wanting to walk down again.
