its really sad to watch the anti-histerdom unfold in this forum with the same pretension as hipsterdom.

from what I've heard its a good album (and for a pop album its excellent), but I doubt it warrants a perfect score from an indie rock site, and I highly doubt its the stinking turd a lot of you believe it is (or at least started saying it is immediately after the Pitchfork score was posted... free thought and individual opinion clearly at work there...).

Do you honestly think all reviewers genuinely praise this album? I have a hunch there's a lot of money involved.

I honestly don't know how these things work, but I'd say that's completely ridiculous.

If you don't enjoy Kanye that's fine, but I don't think Pitchfork got bribed for that. I can totally see why Pop fans would think this album is perfect, mainly cos its better than most popular hip hop by a long shot.

Everyone knows Illuminati paid big money for this 10.0 @ Pitchfork. And Kanye is the mastermind behind 911.

i could see him crashing planes into buildings just to get people to look at him.

both the cover and name look like they could be a new Aaron Funk release..

But as for the music.. I can't get into pop world conventions of sung-melodies, nonchalant profanity, and fairly little dynamics (all feeling radio-friendly-mastered.. if that makes sense). I really really dislike it. And hearing "i call you bitch for short" over avril 14 made me die a little on the inside. That's my honest review of the music, and I actually gave the whole album a listen tonight. I'd be open for some of you who are crazy over it to help me catch what you love about it though..

kudos to you for making a civil, honest review of the music that isn't pretentious or a knee jerk to the Pitchfork review.

I myself am not crazy over it, but I do enjoy the quality hip hop production mixed with epic strings. And some of his ideas I enjoy a lot; I thought the autotune-as-guitar solo at the end or Runaway was the only time since "One More Time" I've been amazed by the effect. So for pop music I'm impressed.

But I don't think I'll get it. I guess to say its "good for pop music" would be to justify pop's poor standard, plus rap isn't really my thing.

I just enter Kanye discussions because people who despise him for no reason are my pet hate. I'll try to stay away.

i picked it up because of the stellar reviews everywhere. about halfway through it right now. it's okay. certainly not perfect. but i like it a hell of a lot more than 808s and heartbreak so far.

i dont really get the outright hate for him. i mean he's a douchebag, for sure. i think even he'd admit that (actually he does in the second track, i think) but i mean who really gives a shit? he's entertaining in that right. and really, taylor swift is a horrible fucking self-hating cunt of a woman, so i'm glad he interrupted the hell out of her. and that brought around one of the most entertaining moments in pop culture history, her telling kanye that it's okay, his family PROBABLY still loves him, even though he interrupted her getting her award.

so yeah. i dunno.

maybe give it a 7.5 or 8 or something. so far. it could get even better! could get worse too. still got half an album to go.

also "got so much head i woke up in sleepy hollow" is a great line i dont care what anyone says.

but this thing, my first impression was that the melodies of the vocals are all subtle ripoffs of other popular songs, that some of it was lazy (the avril 14th track), and hell, just for that chris rock thing i'd drop two whole points from its score. I like the new sufjan much better, sounds more sincere.

i've only listened once so maybe i'll see the light later on.

yeah that chris rock thing did just kind of drag onnnn and onnnnnnn and was just kind of annoying.

For those of you who are still stuck on "Oh my goodness Kanye West is such a dickbag."

A. His "outrageous" actions, much like Lady Gaga's outfits, only serve to keep the general publics attention. It is very doubtful any of us know the real Kanye West from seeing him play his part on television.

He's a multi-million dollar man sitting very near the top of the rap game and people who get in that kind of position and stay in that position just don't make those kinds of PR mistakes at such a frequent rate. Everything you've seen or heard of him doing was very well thought out, I promise.

B. Stop paying attention to what celebrities do for fuck sakes.
