i don't think it's all calculated, kind of the reverse. i think they keep a lid on him most of the time, but he really seems like an irl tracy jordan.

i dunno about every single ever, but the vast, vast majority. i think i actually respect him a little more because he's not really hypocritical about it.

maybe hypocritical isn't the right word, but he's at least fairly transparent when it comes to ego.

i was thinking while i listened to the new album tonight.

it's kind of weird... because we might know kanye well ... personally. he makes those ridiculous blog posts, does the outlandish stuff on TV, all that. it's hard to imagine any element of his personality that we are not aware of through his music and his actions/words.

i hope he never goes full on michael jackson insane, but now that i think about it.. it almost feels like he might be reaching that point in terms of spotlight dementia.

who knows. the whole thing is interesting. and meaningless. and i could skip on hitting the post button because ultimately i feel extremely detached from Kayne West as an artist and the music of Kayne West. but also i might as well shoot these shits into the discussion because if not for these shits then what else is there?

Take note that you said he embarrasses himself on a weekly basis...while this is certainly an exaggeration, if anything a it's great use of hyperbole that highlights my point.

By even replying my post you are speculating about his personal life, thus being perhaps somewhat interested or at least partially hooked in to the conversation of Kanye West by not liking him and wanting to give your opinion. Kanye appreciates it, as long as you're talking about him. Kanye as well as most popstars alive today are glad to be in the mouths, the message boards, the blogs and most importantly the ears and eyes of anybody whether the exposure is negative or positive. This is even more important in the rap game of today where controversy = points, and it doesn't even matter what it is anymore. Think of Lil Wayne kissing his father in public and Lil B talking about fucking Kanye West in the ass.

Also think about the Taylor Swift incident...Kanye got on stage and ranted about the MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS. The most inconsequential, void of any integrity, trashy, worthless award show to ever give out awards. Kanye West doesn't give a fuck that Beyonce lost. It would be a little different at the Grammy's but things like this..well. They don't happen at the grammy's do they? Why is that? Take a look at how successful MTV is and then look at the programming. "reality" shows. Fake, poorly written boring reality that to the vast majority of slow-witted people holds more weight than shows they see as not real, because they think they're actually dealing with real people. Kanye West participated in this sort of thing at the VMA's, or at least this is what would seem to be the case, in my humble opinion.

And sure enough it gave him something to write about in his songs and a shitload of attention from just about everyone in America, not to mention all the talk show spots and interviews. Good job Kanye.

EDIT: and I do realize by making this post I too am participating in the Kanye conversation, but the best point I have to make is that the tabloids about these celebrities, real or not, are vapidity masquerading as substance, they are usually 100% forged or mostly exaggerated in the first place, and that art should not be judged based on the personal life or general behavior of the artist.

This album is a big shit. What a piece of garbage.

for the haters, i've been thinking. the thing i love about kanye is his confidence and swagger. those two things are probably what turn others off him.

Basically, this album is something to put into the time capsule of pop culture circa 2010. That's what it's meant to be. A lot of the production is really cool, there are some good tunes, etc. I liked Devil In A New Dress.

I don't think Kanye is the strongest rapper out there by a long shot. Some of those rhymes were pretty bad. He doesn't seem very intelligent, it's not like there's anything insightful or surprising in his lyrics, and his image and the drama surrounding it seems like it was assembled by a committee. I actually agree with a lot of AI5x's "conspiracies" up there.

I can see why critics would praise it, though.

Prince is (was) one of the few pop stars I could stomach despite the huge ego. Is this as good as Prince? I doubt it, considering that prince could channel pure sex onto tape, but kanye is a repressed homosexual. I was reading the pitchfork review and they quote several verses about sex and fucking porn stars and I imagine Kanye saying them and it doesn't compute...I don't see how I could take the album seriously...

I know it's popular to say he's gay, but what can I say, he gives off that vibe. I'm not sure why he seems so uptight, so troubled, with such a chip on his shoulder, but being a repressed homosexual offers one explanation. His hard on for fashion design doesn't help matters. Of course I have no idea if he's actually gay (in fact, I think Eminem seems more gay than Kanye). But why is it that I can look at a prince, who put on makeup and posed nude on a flower on one of his album covers, and feel for certain that he's a lusty 100% straight male (hell, this even applies to Robert Smith), and yet Kanye's rap lines about sex and his posing with a nude Amber Rose seem forced and inauthentic? Even watmm had a multi-page "is kanye gay?" thread, because, well, he sets off people's gaydar.

Admittedly I haven't heard any of his music apart from two or three popular songs. Maybe if I did I'd come away with a different opinion.
