i just admire his trolling abilities.

after every single post I promise myself I won't come back to this thread... god damn you yeezy.

bumping for the simple fact that there have been two more pages since this morning.

I think there is a difference between good and bad uses of auto-tune. Lube seems to be focusing on how the pitch of the input makes the output sound. But to me, what makes someone's auto-tuning good is the modulation of the output pitch -- that is, the way they run up or down to the main note, 'auto-tune grace notes,' if you will. You can just have a flat auto-tune where each note goes cleanly into the next, or you can embellish the transitions by sliding through notes in between the desired pitches (fuck, I'm not explaining this well ... ). I'm thinking of the words "my style" (before "in this flow") in "Pop The Glock" and "already here" in "Tik Tok" -- those lines use the 'grace note' technique. Anyway, if Kanye learned about auto-tune from T-Pain, maybe it was this aspect he learned -- not generating the right tone of voice, but rather using the pitch correction in melodically interesting ways.

And what I'm saying is that for any quasi-intelligent bipedal human it doesn't take any outside tip to figure that out. It literally takes two minutes with the software before you intuitively get there. This isn't in any way an obscure skill requiring a scholastic approach, there is absolutely nothing deep about it, and the deepest thing you can "master" about it is using midi instead of tracking pitch.

In other words: please, before anybody cares to give their two cents... we all have and use DAWs in one form of another here, load it up, put autotune on a channel insert, plug your mic in, sing for 5 minutes. Try to do all the "interesting" thing. Succeed immediately, or at least understand what exactly i meant by "different voices get different results" (regardless of singing artifices you apply or not) Realize how devoid of any mystique "autotune technique" is.

Thank you.

Yeah no shit. My friends and I have had hours of fun sounding exactly like T-Pain with no effort at all. It's called Auto-Tune for a reason!

I enjoy the fragility of the rolling lol tbh. The broken lol is like our own mortality staring us in the face, reminding us to enjoy that sunset.

For the record, i like Kanye (in the sense that i have heard beats that he put his name on that i liked), i just don't respect him.

Kinda like eating at McDonald's once in a while, but who can honestly say that McDonald's any good? Especially when you're getting the weaponized shits afterwards.

That's my review.

solid 5/10

i quite liked 808s and heartbreak, but this album is purely amateurish nonsense, in my non-hip-hop-connoisseur opinion.

i've heard nothing but raves about it... why? it's not particularly groovy or catchy, it's not well produced compared to some amazing stuff happening out there... kanye's lyrics are... puerile at best "this one's for the douchebags... this one's for the assholes..." (and that's from the standout track on the album for me).

dunno. massively overrated shite, in my opinion... but to each their own.

after reading through the thread more, i'm actually content to let lube saibot be my proxy on this issue entirely. +1 ad infinitum.
