Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Weird that you would bring this up because it kind of strikes a personal chord, and I thought I was done with this thread

A few years ago I watched some high profile talk show interview with 'Ye (can't remember, wasn't Oprah, maybe 60 minutes or something) where he explained that he didn't have a father figure growing up but he wasn't so concerned about being overtly masculine because he had a strong mother and learned more from her than anyone else in his life.

& to be honest I was in a similar situation as a child and lot's of kids thought I was gay because I had an effeminate under-tone to my personality, and still do. As much as I would really have no problem with loving dick, and as much as I joke about loving dick, I'm pretty well into pussy and dick just doesn't interest me all that much, even though many irl speculate otherwise.

In this respect I can relate quite a bit to Mr. West, and from my perspective it doesn't seem like hes gay. Just my two cents.

I'm gonna feel stupid when he comes out of the closet finally.

Meh, the album is alright.

It rips a lot of it's production from "8 Diagrams" (with a couple of pop updates for 2010), and the rhymes are mediocre.

Miles better than "808s and Heartbreaks" though.

Also I like lumpenprol's theory. Plus I fully support his love for Prince.

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

of course I have no idea if he's gay or not, more to the point is whether or not generally speaking his music come off as "authentic" or "inauthentic." Both rock and rap are supposed to be about a certain rawness or authenticity. Kanye is certainly open about his persecution/messiah complex, but is there anything more of interest in his music? I don't know, but the macho element of his persona seems forced to me. I don't listen to much rap, but I liked what I heard of eminem early on in his career, when his raps were totally zany and he talked about killing his mom and wife etc. I haven't heard anything that wacky and raw from Kanye; while I've never heard him singing about blunts and Cristal, he does seem to fall back on a lot of the tired rap cliches: fancy cars/houses, acting the player, etc.

Incidentally I think it'd be cool if there was a good gay rapper, the "hard" persona rappers are forced to adopt by rap culture is a straight-jacket (pun intended). You look at eminem and kanye and they both started out skinny and geeky and then as soon as they got popular started pumping iron and trying to fit the typical role of rap star. Pretty boring. Where are the De La Souls and Digable Planets of today?

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

Haven't had a chance to listen to this one but I seriously doubt it will be as as good as 808s

chenGOD probably doesn't like 808s?

808 is fantastic btw and i can't see how this can be better.

I don't get the hype at all, maybe because I'm not american...

but...

an album so AWFULLY mastered like this getting perfect scores makes me

Just like classical music recordings get their ratings based on performance and sound quality, this shouldn't be less. You don't give a videogame a perfect score if it's full of bugs.

but kanye is a repressed homosexual.

i don't enjoy this theory. he seems like the only rapper not to be sexually piggish to a cartoonish extreme, and to have ambition beyond being a rich retard who spends his money on gold flat caps or whatever

um, from the article: "Hell of a Life" attempts to bend its central credo-- "no more drugs for me, pussy and religion is all I need"-- into a noble pursuit. As a woofer-mulching synth line lurks, Kanye justifies his dreams of not sleeping with but marrying a porn star, peaking with the combative taunt, "How can you say they live they life wrong/ When you never fuck with the lights on."

I know it's popular to say he's gay, but what can I say, he gives off that vibe. I'm not sure why he seems so uptight, so troubled, with such a chip on his shoulder, but being a repressed homosexual offers one explanation. His hard on for fashion design doesn't help matters. Of course I have no idea if he's actually gay (in fact, I think Eminem seems more gay than Kanye). But why is it that I can look at a prince, who put on makeup and posed nude on a flower on one of his album covers, and feel for certain that he's a lusty 100% straight male (hell, this even applies to Robert Smith), and yet Kanye's rap lines about sex and his posing with a nude Amber Rose seem forced and inauthentic? Even watmm had a multi-page "is kanye gay?" thread, because, well, he sets off people's gaydar.

Admittedly I haven't heard any of his music apart from two or three popular songs. Maybe if I did I'd come away with a different opinion.

I posted the former comment and realised that he is indeed sexual in his lyrics, but refrained from editting simply because I wanted to say the phrase "sexually piggish to a cartoonish extreme". Seriously, they're all fucktards.

having said that, I feel his take on sexuality is almost subversive. That line about marrying a porn star especially. That's not your usual bitches n booty, that's more psychological. And "How can you say they live they life wrong/ When you never fuck with the lights on." too, it strikes me as digging a little deeper, possible dealing with sexual guilt. But I guess that plays into the gay theory.

anyway, whatever. its the beats I care about. Those sweet Kanye/RZA/Premier beats.

has the dirty version of this leaked yet? cause I'll give it a try (even though I think Kanye might be a worse rapper than P. Diddy) but i hate bleeped out shit or reverses.

this. this is why i hate Kanye.

He has an amazing ear for production, sampling, etc....but his rapping/singing is fucking ATROCIOUS. Combined with the arrogance and hearing everyone on earth literally say he and Lil' Wayne are the greatest rappers of all time (seriously, let that sink in) drive me nuts.

if he stuck to production for better rappers id be down.

Kanye is NOT a good sample artist! He takes very well-known, recognizable hits and builds tracks around their chorus. That's not creative, that's the opposite.

Who should I listen to? An angry Aphex Twin fan who's pissed at Kanye for sampling his favorite artist's piano melody? Or Pitchfork's perfect score review?

The fact that Pitchfork gave the album a 10 is literally hurting my head, and obliterates any credibility they may have had left. The reason any Aphex fan would be pissed about Kanye sampling RDJ is because Kanye is wack! If someone dope freaked Avril 14th it would be a totally different story.
