i've got to admit i'm not one for beer cocktails, but lately i've been really enjoying American whiskeys. have you had the Jim Beam rye? it's the one with the yellow label. so sweet and smooth. i haven't tried any other ryes yet but i've been enjoying a few bourbons - bulleit, wild turkey, maker's mark.

any other lovely American whiskeys i should taste? particularly ryes?

never had Plymouth but I do have bitters for when I get on jim beam manhattan kicks.

just saw this post! yeah, i mixed up a few manhattans with my jim beam rye. what a great drink.

how much does bourbon go for in the u.k.? i usually drink evan williams bourbon. it is very cheap and a relatively good bourbon, about 11$ a magnum where i live. really i don't think it gets much better than maker's mark, but wild turkey 101 is defiantly my go too when i got's enough bills to afford it.

P.S. never had beam rye

P.S.S. bourbon = the best

i've mainly been drinking it in bars so i couldn't tell you how much a bottle is for sure. i think the beam rye was about £17 for a bottle.

Yuk.

no, Yek.

Worst coffee and doughnuts. Although I cant speak internationally of course.

when i drank the stuff i preferred it over starbucks coffee. donuts are cheap too. it's like fastfood but not.

I'm not crazy about starbucks either. Theres a chain over here called "Finnbee's" I cant recall the last time I bought a coffee there but I always buy beans in there because the ground them fresh for you and they make excellent fucking coffee.

currently drinking a nice strong gin and tonic. the gin is only Bombay Sapphire which I'm not too keen on - i'd rather have Plymouth - but it's the best my Sainsburys Local had.

still, it's a gin and tonic. the best long drink.

agreed, gin and tonic is great.

i'm just finishing a bottle of Glenfarclas 10.

Glenfarclas_10_Year_Old__67325_zoom.jpg

it started out (the bottle) as a pleasant sweet vanilla scented highland malt. now towards the end it feels almost too fruity. i'm glad it's over so i can move on.

you say Macallan is good, it's been on my list for a while now... which one should i try? tbh i was looking towards Glenmorangie 10 but i might go with Macallan instead.

The Macallan 12 sherry oak is ridiculously smooth. It's not going to impress scotch snobs with complexity but it's perfect for a daily drinker or for company.

I only have access to doublewood, i'm on my second bottle right now, it's fantastic.

i also try to have a bottle of islay malt at all times, but i just finished a lagavulin 16. ardbeg 10 is next!

Yeah, love the doublewood!

On the islay front, I had some Bruichladdich recently that I liked, but I can't remember which expression it was.

islay whiskey... *drool* i'm having a frozen kebab at present. i am in the gutter looking at the stars.

I bought this for pure hilarity value yesterday. My bottle's in French though. Came with two little glasses with little metal leopards stuck to the stems. Madness.
