I sprung for this lately (and enjoyed it). Considering I've only ever tried the really cheap bourbon this was quite a step up.

-edit- Also, brandy hot toddies last week as I was getting over a mild cold.

The Macallan 12 sherry oak is ridiculously smooth. It's not going to impress scotch snobs with complexity but it's perfect for a daily drinker or for company.

Ended up getting Glenmorangie 10, tasting it now. I like it, so sweet!

no boozy lunch for me today, but i'm gonna drop by the Whiskey Exchange on my way home and pick up a bottle of something sweet and American. maybe a bottle of rye, maybe a wild turkey. i'm in the mood for drinking old-fashioneds.

Can you get George Dickel over there? It's pretty good.

I actually dunno if I've ever had Glenmorangie. Have to do a whisk(e)y run this weekend and I might grab a bottle.

go for the wild turkey; make sure it's not mild turkey. honestly, i was dumbfounded when i discovered mild turkey in the depths of a cavernous cambridge liquor warehouse....

This is the Dickel that I have had:

^legitimately good stuff; so much better than Jack, Wild Turkey, etc., but still pretty cheap.

Edit: note the conspicuous lack of an "e" in "whisky" on the label.

Stella Artois 330ml ice cold (imported Belgium style). Nothing fancy but hitting the spot, I'll be snorting up the real ale saturday onwards (and working it all off monday onwards heheh)

yeah, i go to a pretty good spirit shop in central London which has all the wild turkey variations including a couple of the more expensive bottlings... there are about two shops i know in the whole city which have a good selection of American whiskey but i go out of my way to get it because i've really fallen in love with the stuff.

but as i write above, i've decided to to with the Maker's today. Mmmm. just woke up from a little nap with a rousing neat glass, and now i've settled back into a sweet Old Fashioned. the whiskey-lover's cocktail.

Yeah, definitely, for the price. It's only about $18 where I am, mind.

edit: supposedly was a bit better/less young a few years back, though, from what I've read. Don't know how old my last bottle was.

  • 3 weeks later...

I've been having a bit of success at work lately, and it's payday today, so last night I went to the whiskey store and bought myself a bottle of Woodford:

Woodford_Reserve_24.jpg

Of all the bourbons I've had recently, this is probably the tastiest. It's a complex taste - there's fruity sweetness, smoked wood, spiciness - but it's all perfectly balanced with a fantastic long finish that really lingers on the palate. I was really tempted to drink half the bottle, but I limited myself to a couple of glasses so I can have a great boozy time this weekend. Can't wait to see how it tastes in an Old Fashioned.

oooof. I haven't had a drink in awhile. but I have another unopened bottle of Hendricks and a fresh cucumber so....
