So yes I've listened to this album lots now and I still think it's fantastic. The songs came into focus nicely and I appreciate this more swampy/murky sort of Amnesiac approach they've gone back to. This album doesn't remind me of In Rainbows at all, and even after hearing people say that I still can't hear it. In Rainbows was clean and broad whereas this is misty and blurred, and the songs are less obvious. I mean I love In Rainbows but the songs were very economical in their arrangement whereas the writing on this is a little more subtle.

'Give Up the Ghost' does however remind me of Grizzly Bear, a lot. I hear a fair bit of them throughout the record even.

good points and agreed

This is clearly an impressionist album, in the same veins that Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé is compared to the ensemble of classical recordings. Everything can be interpreted as something else, nothing is clearly defined. I still wish they had left a couple of tracks off the second disc of In Rainbows (4-minute warning, Last Flowers, Go Slowly) and kept them for this album, because those tracks are so fucking underrated it's a shame they will never be part of their live performance.

Speaking of Radiohead live, I'm kinda bored by the sometimes 10-year old arrangements that they uses for live songs (after seeing them about 5 times now). I'm really looking forward to see these tracks played live, and if they can give new life to their older catalogue.

absolutely. i was listening to the lyrics of "Lotus Flower" while thinking about my mother and my relationship with my family. trippy and extremely moving. as is Codex. that might not have anything to do with your quote but i agree

Same here... while the drums are great, they tend to just loop on most of the songs. I keep wanting to focus my attention on them to notice changes, but then it just gets irritating when they don't.

I still can't get into this album. I listen and think it's pretty good, but then it ends because it's so short and I put on some HTTT or In Rainbows tracks and realize how much more amazing they are.

so glad Fox news loves this record. WTF!?!?!?!?! the jarring serenity?

lol yea, jarring serenity? do we still have that oxymoron thread?

Meanwhile, "Feral" contorts Yorke's voice into a reverb-infused, James Blake-like wriggle that pings around the stereo channel against a mulched up drum pattern that sounds sharper than glass...

wat? god I hate pitchfork but I also can't stop reading it...

disappointment: codex - sounds kinda banal to me, although johnny's strings are gorgeous.

yeah, Jonny's There Will Be Blood style strings are on this song, it's nice.

I think I like Separator the most at the moment (I only like the 2nd half really, but that 2nd half is really really good). The drums sound a little thin though.

the King of Limbs is a third grade boy/girl walking across a playground, quietly mumbling to itself about its hurt toe that it stubbed the morning before school and wondering if the pain will ever subside, this record seems to be stuck in place between purple and blue, if only Radiohead could get a nice breakfast before entering the studio to record, this record might have come across with more red in it. Otherwise the mummification went well. 7.45

hey...

it actually hasn't aged too bad imo. even though they hate it.
