edit: For the record, last music I obtained though other means: Move of Ten. I don't care about this scene anymore. I just make my own tunes, listen to my friends music, and get on with my day.

for WATMMers who made the short shortlist. Unfortunately that page loads way too slowly on my netbook for me to listen to the tracks (will probably end up waiting until they do the short short shortlist).

I must say, I'm quite fascinated by which pieces they picked. They really are quality.

Definitely agree with this! I've had a listen through a good portion of these and there's few, if any, I'd easily cut. I just hope that after the top 10 are picked and released, we'll see the one's that didn't make it on some future release, or available to download somewhere.

I'm guessing the SC favourites are mostly just tracks that whoever from Bleep was verifying submissions at the time heard & went "yeah, that's a good'un". This shortlist are the ones a panel of judges from Warp or wherever determined had the best marketability/creativity/dopeness/etc.

 

Still, I'm happy I made the 300.

Wow, congratulations guys! Opened my bleep newsletter and saw candlestickmaker immediately. Nice tracks too.

I find the majority of the stuff there more than boring... maan they had like 4000 submissions to choose from - and that's it? a lot of stuff is sounding great and has nice sounds, but it feels so uninspired and the melodies and or rhythm is so dull. A lot of people trying to rip of Flying Lotus and Four Tet in my ears.

 

that thrack is the only one i really liked

 

but i didnt make it either under the 300 or 50 so i should think this way right

Honestly, there are some that I find extremely played out and derivative. Overuse of preset kits and synths and all that, but there really are some great tracks in there. Like that mattcawte track posted on the previous page.

this was a nice surprise today. had a friend tell me about them announcing this, and there i was in the list. to be in the top 50 out of 4000 submissions is a pretty staggering honour.
