I've sussed the problem with this bird. Her tracks are quite good but...

If she was underground and worked her way up, slowly getting recognition and through word of mouth and touring became huge, it would be hunky dory, we would all be going mad over her. Sure she would lose fans as she gained popularity but that's another story.

But she turned up on the music scene with the clout of the American military behind her! I keep away from a lot of newspapers and media but not a day goes by without me seeing her face, this was going on before even her first single dropped. I feel like I am getting punched in the face everyday with her mugg looming behind it.

Her video for Born to Die was on the tv today and it was just massivly overblown and slickly (sickly) mainstream, which doesn't quite match up with other parts of her marketing scheme.

I don't buy into it at all, but I do like some of her songs....

yesterday i worked somewhere that had BBC Radio 1 on all day and Lana Del Ray was on two occasions, not a refreshing change from the other shit. heard two other songs (only heard video games before). it kind of slotted in where Goldfrapp would have been last time i had to listen to Radio 1, so it still sounded like the same brown noise. highlights were m83's midnight city (a song i have more than once chosen to listen to myself) and that like a G6, like a G6 track.. because that song is hilarious
