The quintessential Squarepusher track

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

close the thread this needs no explanation to anyone with a brain

Я твой слуга, Я твой работник

I think he's more of a craftsman than an artist. I'm not that emotionally engaged when I listen to the majority of his music.

Welcome to Europe will always be one of my favourite tracks though.

Feel exactly the same about squarepusher. I enjoy it from time to time and it's obviously good, it's just totally void of any emotion for me. I have quite a bit of his stuff (Ultravisitor, Go Plastic, Big Loada, Hard Normal Daddy, Numbers Lucent, Hello Everything, Just a Souvenir) I nostly find myself listening to Hello Everything.

It's probably my least listened to warp classic artist after aphex, who I also find (though to a lesser degree) lacks emotion.

It's all about Ae and BoC for me.

I don't get this at all. many of his tracks have distinct emotional qualities. I would've thought it'd be impossible to listen to either of the Iambics and not feel something.

Iambic 9 poetry is nice. Actually vacuum garden evokes something emotional in me. But most of the time tom's music sounds like he's stumbling upon melodies whilst sitting around tuning his instruments, which of course has it's charm but It never strikes me as if there's any emotion behind his music, not anywhere near the way autechre and boards of canada make their music. WIth them I always get a distinct sense of hidden warmth. I think it's because autechre and boards of canada are duos, whereas aphex and squarepusher is just one guy noodling around that makes it less emotional.

I've always thought of richard and tom as a bit stand offish and kind of come off as dicks, whereas sean & rob and michael & marcus seem more upfront and down to earth (also in interviews not just in their music)

take anything squarepusher has done and compare it with say; drane, piezo, vletrmix, rae, pir, ilanders. They're all charged with a seemingly natural, deep emotion that I just find generally lacking in squarepusher's music.

Hey, maybe it's because I haven't listened to shoebaleader one yet :emotawesomepm9:

I am sure if you met Sean he would be very down to earth and fine, he just seems like a normal lad to me. He seem's more like a nutter than a dick imo lol.

Well, if you were to ask me of sad/bittersweet/emotional/melancholic/deep and personal Aphex Twin/Autechre tracks I'd be able to name dozens. Tbh the same applies to Venetian Snares.

But with Squarepusher, I'd struggle to think of many. I don't find the lambic poetry's moving, or 'my sound'. I feel like there's this barrier between him and his music, it's not as instinctive, it's not as personal, those aforementioned artists have this consistent knack of getting under my skin. It feels like their music comes from this deeper place, that it wasn't consciously created. With Squarepusher, I feel like he's thought 'i want to make something bittersweet now', or ' I want to make something moody and angry now'. They don't strike me as precious moments. I think maybe it's because he plays an instrument and considering how much he waffles on and on about his music, it doesn't surprise me that it lacks a a raw impulsiveness. He doesn't need to say 'yeah recently i've been thinking about pure electronic music that's aggressive', it ought to be that the music doesn't come from such a considered place and just IS. I don't find Ufabulum pure or aggressive.

I do really love Welcome to Europe and Rotate Electrolyte though. That all sounds so unappreciative and unfair, I'm comparing him to my favourite artists.
