A pair of explosions rocks the finish line at the Boston Marathon, injuring at least a half-dozen people.

she is a perfect example of how most of the damaging racists (the kind that's not worn on the sleeve or out in the open like a neo nazi) are people who believe shit like this that outright deny even the concept of racism and spout the bullshit 'reverse racism' angle.I find this type of racism extremely common among republican or right wing types. No source needed because its well.. fucking obvious. Just go to drudge report to see what i'm talking about, 50% of the time there is ample 'coded' racism employed on the website. I put coded in quotes because only someone in extreme denial would think that it's stealth.

edit: Obama eventually used the phrase 'an act of terror' in a speech, but for many Fox news reporters he did it too late, lol.

im wrong. no neo nazis , but there were a lot of scary dudes in Boston. Shaved headed pugilist youths. Lots of fist fighting in Boston.

But i loved Boston. Loved walking the streets for miles on end. Id walk from Newbury street back to Allston, over to Cambridge where I worked. Loved the place even though the weather was awful. Loved the trident book store on Newbury. Is it still there?

wait, i thought it was still assumed to be a lone nut? why pushing the terrorism angle now? i haven't been caught up on the issue so im still sifting through old updates.

maybe hes over-zealous to try to 'correct' the fact that it took him a few weeks to finally admit what everyone else knew for a few weeks, including him, that the benghazi ebassy was a planned attack conducted by terrorists? he casually called it that himself the day after it happened in a candid conversation, before going on to propagate the lie that it had something to do with some video that someone put up on youtube in an exercise of their freedom of speech. he made this utterly ridiculous lie up to not have to worry about even slight harm being done to his bid for re-election, that may have happened if he and if the media called it an act of terror. and he completely got away with that lie. to this day the vast majority of americans probably have no idea that benghazi even happened, let alone that it was a planned attack. if it were romney running for re-election at the time, everyone would know. it would have been just as inescapable as this latest event. and you guys are talking propaganda.

so now we have obama trying to make up for that (not sure why he feels the need though, except that this event happened on american soil so it's a lot harder for the media to play dumb about) by being the strong one with his 'we will get to the bottom of this act of terror' stance. it's not hard to figure out. now he can say he's tough on terror and calls it what it is when it happens. nevermind the continual requests for more security our ambassador asked hillary for over and over due to growing signs of violence around him, requests that were ignored. they dropped the ball with benghazi bigger than shit, and anyone other than obama would have been called out by the media for it, and raked over the coals. instead they helped him cover his ass. it wasn't just completely shameless, it was childish, and it would be career ending for most people.

lol what an idiot.

I know this isnt the thread for this but oh boy here we go ..Okay how is what she said racist?, she was quoting and then she got mad at the over sensitivity caller. Cant we all stop with this fear of words, havent you heard the Louie CK bit about the n-word? i mean come on this Dr laura character wasnt using the word in a hateful way, she was just quoting someone.

Context is everything!, if you are going to get mad at someone and accuse them of racism just because they said a word (and the intent was obvious in a non-hateful way) then fuck off with your over-sensitivity.

Get mad at the fucking neo-nazi who actually hate black people, dont get mad at someone for quoting someone saying the n-qord, i mean come on, be smarter than that.

And heres the LCK bit

did you actually listen to her whole rant? She literally said 'if you're so over sensitive don't marry outside of your race'. She didn't even let the woman finish talking. If her husband's friends said the word 'nigger' in front of her in a non Louie CK way isn't that blatantly racist? It was almost as if Dr Laura was a child putting fingers in her ears and singing 'la la la la' so she wouldn't have to face the issue. I'm a huge fan of Louis CK and i can very much appreciate a meta conversation about how they're just words, but clearly I wasn't posting that because Dr Laura said 'nigger nigger nigger', that in and of itself I didn't find to be the ridiculous racist in denial part.

can we not talk about politicization of the events if possible? i was hoping to hear more thoughts on the update and investigation.

significant updates:

- both explosives were apparantly very low grade explosives made using the pressure cooker method. The story so far is somebody put a pressure cooker into a duffle bag near each blast point.

- the Saudi national has been released and is no longer a suspect

- no reported new suspects at this time

- the police never really addressed the issue of finding a 3rd or 4th explosive, apparently they didn't find anything like that.

- Obama referred to it as ' act of terror' at a press conference today, and in a strange overly forced clarification said that anytime a bomb is used against an innocent person that it's clearly an act of terror.

- perhaps unrelated but a letter with apparent Ricin was sent to a republican senator Wicker, discovered this morning before it was delivered.

we are a bit off track. not trying to shut anyone up, just suggesting that we keep on topic???

Ive been seeing a lot of news on the 8 year old victim...his mother and sister are in critical condition. that's just sad shit there.

edit: appreciate the update bulletpoints. i still think its really fucking weird that the 3rd blast seemed to have been fabricated from thin air. maybe people thought they were witnessing an explosion nearby due to the loud nature of the real two blasts? or were these locations pretty far apart?

Just to close the loop on the Boston thing—no one is saying (far as I know) that there are no racists in Boston, or that racism “is not a problem” there (or anywhere—obviously it is a problem). But I personally think it’s pretty striking that MOST of the vaguely racially-charged bullshit about this incident has come from the national media. I can’t think that I’ve heard a single report of anything ugly or inflammatory coming from a more local source. Although I’m sure we could find some. But all in all everyone ACTUALLY HERE seems pretty calm.

By the way I’m not trying to elect myself Boston Expert Man in this thread or anything. I only work there, I don’t even live there. And I’m not from there. Still, today and even yesterday evening late, people were pretty calm. Tense, but there wasn’t any undercurrent of “rage” or anything like that, that you might worry about if race was this huge issue or if the national vibe was anything super-nationalistic like it was post-9/11. The reaction feels completely different to me, anyway.

to be fair (towards obama), i kind of agree with the definition of terrorism that any act like this would fall under that heading, regardless of the nationality of the bomber. which, i think is pretty much THE definition. i don't know that anyone ever had the definition altered to be- muslims who blow things up.

even if its a domestic crazy, it seems like it was done to get attention, which seems like it's intended to create fear or maybe there is some attached message or demand we haven't got/heard yet, but it all seems to fall under the word 'terrorist' doesn't it?

High res photo of scene 1 hour before the first explosion.
Incredibly packed.

thats what they said, but apparently that has been dropped...confusion from the other blasts?

i read somewhere (cnn?) that there was a controlled detonation of a "suspicious package" near the library, but it turned out to not be another explosive device.

lol brilliant

as far as 'acts of terror' are concerned, is that movie theatre shooting not an act of terror? the semantics of this bs and the fact the media are focusing on it just shows they have a political agenda over delivering the news and that is very upsetting.

i can't imagine this was some really well thought out plot by a group of people, it certainly appears to be the batman movie theatre shooting type of nut bag.
