I think it's sort of ridiculous to think they expected people to track down some Mid-century modern Gas station IRL. It's just an image for their aesthetic. Weirdos.

I guarantee they did not want people to travel to that gas station.

i agree with alzado that the adult swim bump looks cheaply made, and i, for BoC's sake, hope they disown at least that aspect of the campaign, and the rough trade art installation/projection too pls...

i blame WARP, and it's hipster worker bees

Is 'cheaply made' not apropos for a group that derives its aesthetic from archaic, second-hand technology?

fair point. 'cheaply made' probably isn't the best description, but the ad does come off as kind of unauthentic, or maybe it's disenchanted, but not by much, just enough to kind of throw me off. it's to be expected from WARP, these days i'm thinking

I was being sarcastic when I said the adult swim video was a fake. Do you know how impossible it would be to fake that video? And how expensive it would be to buy a spot on a cable channel?

The video is not cheaply made. The video is lovely. You guys need to settle the fuck down.

i don't think it looks cheap but its hip. i hope neil krugs hasn't designed all the artwork. he's good at what he does and all,

proving the laboursome way is better than cheap instagram effects but thats the hard bit to swallow. i thought boc would have moved on from the obvious clichés of today.

oh look the new boc is an instagram style cover.

I don't think it looks cheap I just think its a bit hacky. looks like fake fim effects to me.

anyway, people are saying that the rough trade thing was to ensure the NPR code went in the right place but if they just broadcasted the final set of numbers and ensured where that number was supposed to go, then the NPR set would have been locked into its place by default anyway.

the rough trade thing on Friday is looking like it was some sort of aborted stunt.

I'm really starting to think the numbers mean nothing and its all just album teasers.

Maybe the delay is because although they'd initially meant for the numbers only to be part of an aesthetic advertising the album, they've realised by the fervour of all the analysing of what they could mean that they HAVE to mean something or there will be a lot of mildly annoyed fans/amateur mathematicians.

So they've spent the last few days desperately trying to invent a code that would fit the numbers they've given out already.

I'm quite surprised that anyone thinks this project/campaign has been 'messed up' in any way...if indeed the NPR broadcast had been, there's just no way anyone (Warp/affiliates/et al) could just turn up with some projectors and a wad of cash to 'rent' the Loading Bay for a few days. It just doesn't work like that. This has all been booked well in advance of Record Store Day.

As it's opposite Rough Trade, and Warp's offices are in London, I would wager that this site still has some part to play in all of these shenanigans.

I'm with Alzado, that Adult Swim trailer was fucking lovely, especially as I'd seen the flickery version at the Lodaing Bay the night before. I'm sure it'll all make sense at some point in the not too distant...

After 7 years of nothing, there's been 8 days of constant clues and plants and nonsense...if it's no fun for you, then just ignore it.

(edit: not aimed at you jules, by the way)

The video and the whole vibe of this so far makes me think that they were probably really into 'Lost' or at least the aesthetic and mythology behind it. We seem to have the whole DARPA station, grainy film, 1977, abandoned outposts thing going on.

Probably the perfect vehicle to sell their type of music.

Nah, that would be absolutely moronic. The codes must have some kind of purpose. I just hope (for everyone's sake) that they unlock something more substantial than a release date. They have to give us a new track at the end of all this, at the bare minimum.

What if maybe joyrex has been entrusted with the last part of the code and at the point in time he has been instructed, he'll reveal it here? Would be a great PR win for him to get some free publicity for his site. Hmm maybe it would attract a lot of bad Internet types though...

imo everything we've had so far has been its own reward. this literally came out of nowhere; in one week the boc bros have broken their silence with hidden lps, creepy audio codes hidden in images and broadcast on the radio, a cool little video on tv, mysterious rte thing, etc. i mean fuck, this shit is dope in itself! boc are back and i personally think the "bare minimum" has been duly exceeded already.

yea. in the beginning with the numbers, I kept thinking of the hatch and the dharma stuff. all of those crazy things all had to mean something, and well, we know how that turned out.

I am not trying to slag the video and campaign btw, I'm just expressing my opinion. I've been in the marketing/advertising world for 13 years now. and to me, IMO, they lost a lot of steam starting Friday night. the video would have been cool as shit out of nowhere but broadcasting it as a projection and attracting people to a location to turn them away was silly. not to mention that code was already given and they knew it was going to air on adult swim a day later.

plus people trespassing on an abandoned gas station is probably not in their best interest.

but trust me, I'm excited as shit that they are active!

Maybe they just forgot the last number.

flol that would be amazing

warp: everything's going quite nicely, when do you want to issue the last number?

boc: uh, friday right?

warp: lush.

FRIDAY

warp: ok, we're all set up. what's the number?

boc: uh, just play the npr one for a sec...

hi, long time lurker here - I just wanted to chime in.

I really don't understand how people can act like they deserve new music from boc, or act as if boc owes something to them. By all means, critique away if you don't think this marketing campaign wasn't the best route for them, but please stop acting like shitheads regarding new music. If you're complaining now, you'll surely be complaining when they eventually release whatever it is they're promoting.

I'm ecstatic about this whole thing, and as far as I'm concerned they can take as long as they want with it. Sure, it's been a long 8 years but to be fair they could've hung it up and moved on if they wanted to. They would still be my favorite artists anyways. That being said I cannot wait to hear what they've been working on, and I love how they've reappeared after all this time.

To me, each release is it's own entity. I try not to compare albums against eachother, and I don't expect their next release to "top" the previous one. I find each album to be an experience in itself, and I don't expect this new release to be any different.

Anyways, there isn't a ton of negativity going on here but I'd hope everyone can just chill out and enjoy the ride, it probably won't happen like this again and it could very likely be the last new music boc puts out (really hope not...). Enjoy it while it lasts, enjoy the hype, and enjoy having a forum like this where you can share the experience with like minded people who share such a similar and special interest in boc.
