i would agree but also go as far as to say that darth maul was also a dud.

Maul was an interesting but terribly underutilized character - had he been given some reason for existing other than just being Sidious' heavy, it might have been more interesting.

Lucas should have started out Anakin as a young man, not a little boy, and the whole romance angle, his fall from grace, and transformation into Darth Vader (which also should have happened much sooner, like around Episode II, with III being more of how the Jedi were exterminated).

I wonder if Disney would dare re-do the prequels? Given the right writers, actors, and directors, I bet they could do a better job than Lucas.

Also, LOL at how salty Lucas is in this Charlie Rose interview:

kinda shitty they completely ignored his ideas, realise the prequels went bad, but still he created SW.... guess the new film & future films are purely fan fiction then & what he says about lack of risks is true, especially in the new film in terms of the plot

anyhow

Finally saw it last night. Loved it, super entertaining as long as you don't go Full Autism

I watched the old six before seeing VII and oddly it's episode III that stuck in my mind the most. So many wasted opportunities. After Sidious, Greivous was the best baddie out of any of the prequels, they could have used him so much more - how did he end up mostly robot? Could have even used him to show Anakin's developing dark side - e.g. the two had met before, Anakin brutally savaged his pre-robot body, or some shit... Also there's no mystery right from the start about how Palpatine = Sidious. They could have kept us guessing right up until the end of Episode III for maximum cummage. Apart from the horrendous dialogue and cringy filler bollocks like the Podrace, the biggest problem with those films was the lack of any kind of mystery. You already know that Anakin becomes Vader so they really, really needed some element in the plot that kept you on your toes

But I'm surprised how cummy I am for Star Wars again now. So well done JJ Abrahms

I think they ignored his ideas because they were probably shit. Fucker's got 4 billion dollars to ease his pain...

You can't blame Disney for playing it safe with the first movie; hopefully the Rogue One and Episode VIII will be more ground-breaking.

(sorry slow web connect)

yeah that said he only knows the bare bones of the universe & the main story threading through though, the prequels could of been alright if they were made by different directors & script writers, as with ESBack & return of the jedi. enjoyed TFA just it has some major holes in it, he's made a strong valid point though about the originality & lack of risk/innovation,

which might just get worse in the future as the monster franchise has barely taken off yet, just look at the recycling of all the marvel films that disney also own, which are increasingly just becoming more terrible & numbing eye candy,

also with TFA jj abrmas spoke of minimising cgi, why is the main bad guy 100% cgi? he looked terrible & brought the film quality down & back into the prequel realm....

anyhow...

They didnt play safe at all, they just xerroxed the very one and managed to turned it into some 2 hours badly written + predictable crap ; the forthcoming ones being better than the newly released one ? err..that's exactly what they said with the Phantom menace.

RIP Star Wars (1977-1983)

Destroying a death star at the end of a star war movie, has become a gimmick, just like James Bond ordering some dry martini in a 007 movie.

(Well at least James Bond still has some elegance/swag).

lol

this video is the perfect antidote to this sort of fan-filling-in-the-gaps bullshit that has segwey'd its way into alleged "canon" despite being made up bullshit that has nothing to do with the films or anything.
