Sorry to hear about this. As I said above the worst outcome would have been a muddled result, I wanted Trump to lose but if he's going to win at least its a clear win. A surprisingly clear win, this needs analysis beyond 'everyone is stupid', but that can wait.

We're in for a messy few years. Trump falls out with _everyone_ though so I don't think he will be able to anoint a successor and obviously there's no chance of him running again (no chance of 66% senate vote to change constitution) so hopefully we can say goodbye to the maga era in 4 years.

The reason Trump won is mostly down to the Democrats being weak ass idiots kissing moderate republicans ass in hope that they will win a vote or two, instead of going hard left and representing the working class while kicking nazi ass.

i'm an adept of the vlad vexler channel, so better to check that out. essentially it's a loss of trust in government/institutions. for a variety of good reasons. to a certain degree you could argue that the political center has screwed the middle class. and now voters run towards extremes of the political spectrum. more in the spoiler. all the succes of the disinformation is a result of existing problems that were already there.

Is there really any confusion about this? The Dems were a failure in office. They failed to take decisive action against Trump's movement after Jan 6th. They failed to tackle issues around abortion, the supreme court, the judiciary. They failed on Covid, killing over twice as many Americans as Trump did whilst pretending it was all over. They more or less continued Trump's policies on immigration and the middle east and pursued a forever war policy in Ukraine. They failed to act substantively on climate change to the point of promoting fracking, literally the worst possible thing you could do. They failed to address Biden's obvious problems until it was far too late and then failed to run a proper process for selecting a replacement, instead defaulting to a weak candidate with marginal appeal who was seemingly incapable of articulating any vision for her administration. Most critically (if you look at the exit polls) they failed to act on the economy, preferring to pretend (as trump did) that the stock market was the only important factor and failing to rein in corporations that were responsible for 50% of price rises through profit seeking and greedflation.

OFC, this is a disaster, but the lesson is clear. Why would anyone vote for a watered down neo-liberal blue republican when the real thing is standing right there? The only vague positive out of all this is that Trump is marginally less likely to start a nuclear war on purpose - though the chances of him doing it by accident are significantly higher.

“They” is anyone (mainly the media) that enabled him to run held to a different standard than literally anyone else ever, after all of the bullshit, constant lies, Jan 6, etc etc etc that should’ve and would’ve been enough to stop anyone else.

@may be rude this goes out to you and everyone else who is understandably reeling at today's events...please try to avoid becoming openly emotional on the internet about the result. this was the mistake i made in 2016, i found out the hard way (and i won't be the last) that people online are not super-cool or sympathetic about these things.

it shouldn't be that way, not at a time like this, but that's life. remember there are a lot of people out there (even on this forum) who did vote for Trump, and the next few days will be prime time for all the edgelords who want to be high-and-mighty about their victory. obviously that includes the total assholes who do not give a single fuck, not even about those who are truly devastated right now.

i've mainly been pretty neutral or bantery about this topic on here, but this is me being real. personally i just wish we'd stuck to the 2020 thread which i think had the right kind of vibe, ngl that vibe has been difficult to find online). don't let people see you get heated about this result, talk to close friends or family members and stay cool

She's a person of color, a woman and people connect her with "the establishment / them / those guys up there". People can't afford housing and there is a raging inflation. maybe, but idk. center dems are what have won most often, but that's due to institutional issues w/in the dem party...that's all they've run for the presidency really.

i honestly don't know if a Bernie Sanders could've ever won in a general election, i really don't. the majority of America really is pretty center-ish, but this year it seems center-right-ish.

As I said before, these are tons of people who are voting against the status quo and the system more than voting for Trump, IMO.

The reasons why are many and complicated, loss of trust in political institutions, accelerating wealth gap, media more concerned with making money by reporting "spin" and "takes" than reporting facts, racism, foreign interference...

We can try to tamp out some of those, but as long as there's a large pissed-off middle / lower class who are being told that the economy is doing great while they see their own paychecks barely rise against inflation, these people will be ripe for manipulation and the Rs are much better at that than the Ds.

I agree with this prediction. It might be even likely that they assassinate him and blame it onto the other side or wait till the other side helps them to do their job. I think they want Vance in the chair.
