Ok hear me out. Slowdive was inactive from 1995-2013.

what years were boc active?

coincidence?

BOC and MBV both disappeared after 2013. No way that is not an Illuminati plot.

Ok what about Peter Gabriel who returned after a 21 year hiatus. With his i/o comeback album. At 73 years old.

I stand by my case BoC can take as long as they want without being labeled disbanded or non-active.

let's just come back to the claim that BoC were active for *three decades*. as i said before, the earliest possible cut-off date would have to be 1996 because they did not release anything publicly until Hi Scores. their last album was TH in 2013, since then we have only had very minor remix appearances which were outside their main record label. there is no justification for the claim of three decades, they have effectively been inactive since 2013 and their range, as i said before, is 1996 to 2013 (17 years).

we're now bringing up other artists like mbv and seefeel who took long breaks (10+ years) before reuniting and putting out a new album. and that's cool - i'm still holding out for a BoC reunion, it's surely not out of the question. but either way that is a gap of 12 years for BoC, and i also wouldn't consider hiatuses of 10 years to count as "activity".

i know you're super loyal to the sandisons Fredd-E, and that's awesome :beer:but on the subject of quantity, surely you agree that 1996-2013 is the only reasonable range of activity to be said for BoC's "output"?

I think you missed one of the earlier posts by one of your regulars. He started the whole jab at BoC not releasing much and making it into a quantity thing. lol

Nah, it started with someone saying they'd be surprised if BoC released any more music. Then you described them as having put out three decades worth of music, which was called into question, then it all got very silly.

Better just agree to disagree. Given BoC’s output pattern/schedule whatever I’m more inclined to say all activity counts.
I’m not going to simply disregard 7 remixes and the SxT mixtape like that. All released after 2013.

Is it much? No, it isn’t. But it is something and for all we know they worked a very long time on the mixtape.

During this period they’re most likely working on music anyways whether that be new BoC or some secret projects.

So yes imo they’re always active and we simply need to wait very long, but I’m positive the new album will be ace.

I leave you with an applicable 2013 TH interview quote from Marcus:

  Quote

De:Bug: "There's no way to not call it a comeback. Question is: Is this record a new beginning or maybe the end? How does it feel for you?"

Marcus: "It feels like neither of those things from our perspective because we've always been working! We'd be making music anyway even if nobody was listening, and we've no intention of stopping, so this is just a continuation."

the trouble is that your measure of quality is completely busted. nothing illustrates this more than making a lazy comparison to another idm mainstay who are not comparable to BoC in sound or approach to begin with, let alone slating 10+ years of their consistent releases as all sounding the same.

I love that a BoC bitchfest is happening in the RIP WATMM thread.

Can't argue with how varied the boc back catalogue is

incidentally, surprised this wasn't mentioned along with all the other non-album activity

I would say they are 'active' in the same way somebody with locked-in syndrome but can still wiggle their little finger is 'active.'

The sporadic remixes and Societas X mixtape do suggest they havent fallen out with each other or given up making music - they are still doing stuff, but any sort of release is on the back burner for whatever reason.

You can say what you like about their back catalogue, but MHTRTC is a stone-cold classic that has never been matched in terms of uniqueness and impact.

Dear Boc, please give us that Hell Interface remix of Orinoco Flow and I promise we’ll collectively shut up for a bit.

edit: it can be your contribution for the RIPWATMMEP

i have an inside source telling me that boc was just about to release acid memories and hooper bay on watmm self-labelled, but now that it's shutting down they won't

Hard disagree for me. Geogaddi is great, but it didn’t have the impact MHTRTC did in terms of being something I’d never heard before and having the tracks hook into my brain.
Two outstanding albums though for sure!
