good thing you're an AE fan then where quantity over quality is paramount, since 2012 it's all the same 😴

lmao

-they only released albums between 1996 and 2013, that's 17 years. Twoism is an album from 2002. demo tapes made prior to a band actually getting signed to a label are not considered as "releasing" music by absolutely anybody wtf

-this argument isn't about quantity over quality. we're not criticizing the quality of their music, we're discussing the quantity.

-societas x tape is not an album, it's a mix. dear lord your head would explode if you knew how much output autechre have produced in terms of mix tapes of other peoples' music, if you don't know it's in the range of 100+ hours.

-activity on social media doesn't count. i'm active on social media but it doesn't mean i've been releasing music for 20 years.

-XYZ is a reversion of their decision not to include a track on the peel session in 1999, that kind of decision is highly illustrative of the fact that they have stopped releasing music, it doesn't belong in a list like yours...

- I said the band is active since at least three decades. Aren't bands allowed to have gaps in between releases however big or small? Did you consider bands like Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Seefeel,... disbanded because they were absent for a long time until they finally returned? That's a weird logic. Released != made. Obviously the've been active since 1995 and probably even earlier if you consider the never released old tapes.

- Yes, you're discussing the quantity of BoC's music and that's exactly my gripe. Since when is quantity paramount? In my book quality always wins over quantity.

- SxT is an official piece of work they released. There is no need to minimise this. And it's also pretty much confirmed the "just an illusion" part is a genuine boc mashup/remix.

- Social media activity definitely counts especially when there's hints to future music.

- highly illustrative of their collapse indeed... that's why since XYZ they released 3 more remixes

I've hired a private investigator in Edinburgh to get to the bottom of this BoC madness once and for all.

the trouble is that your measure of quality is completely busted. nothing illustrates this more than making a lazy comparison to another idm mainstay who are not comparable to BoC in sound or approach to begin with, let alone slating 10+ years of their consistent releases as all sounding the same.

I love that a BoC bitchfest is happening in the RIP WATMM thread.

I think you missed one of the earlier posts by one of your regulars. He started the whole jab at BoC not releasing much and making it into a quantity thing. lol

I’m defending the only good way and that is and remains quality over quantity. And in that regard BoC is a prime example.

What’s busted about that? lol

And that quote about all the same since 2012 is clearly a sarcastic reply to some of the same regulars. Please read all in context maybe.

OK, my private investigator P. Lum Associates has reported back.  BoC brothers are both dead/gay.  £2000 well spent.

dead and gay?? well, that's a wrap. just as well WATMM's closing shop.

i just googled this and the ai result at the top confirmed to me that they haven't released any music for 134 years and Orange Romeda was their only album. sry but i don't think your argument is valid :nope:

This pretty IDM conversation makes me wonder: shouldn't we do a very last most IDM competition here before WATMM closes?

Did you consider bands like Slowdive... disbanded

idk about the other bands you mentioned but slowdive definitely broke up for like 20 years lol. they did not in any way shape or form come together as a band between pygmalion and self-titled era. the bass player didn't even have a bass anymore lol

very strange to suggest this as an example of an "active" band...

Very strange indeed as most things on this lovely place

To be honest it's the same with mbv who were not a going concern as a band from about a ten year period 1997-2007.

getting "ship of theseus" vibes, and at the same time it's like talking about music bands as if they're football teams.

What did Ae United do all these years, huh?! Didn't even get close to a goal with the same SYSTEM they've been deploying! It's a red card from me mate!

Ok what about Peter Gabriel who returned after a 21 year hiatus. With his i/o comeback album. At 73 years old.

I stand by my case BoC can take as long as they want without being labeled disbanded or non-active.

Ok hear me out. Slowdive was inactive from 1995-2013.

what years were boc active?

coincidence?

i guess you can say Boards of Canada are in sleep mode, like when you close a laptop without fully shutting it down.
