A few films recently watched.

The shot from Psycho that is still embedded in my mind is that shot of Bates at the basement door holding the knife above his head. The look on his face just looks so real, amazing performance.

Has anyone seen Psycho 2? Had it for awhile but never got around to giving it a try, I hear the third is quite good.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

Ahhhh of course, how could I forget!!

I watched Psycho the other night for the first time. I have attempted once before but a few distractions occured within the first 20 mins so I left it alone for some other day. I switched it on in the middle of the night about 1.30am and sat back, to be honest not really expecting much......

I won't write an essay but I was aware early on, how much the music was playing a massive part in setting the atmosphere, the beginning part of the film when nothing sinister is going on still carries foreboding with it, the soundtrack definately starts messing with your mind.

The first killing when it came, didn't really horrify me too much, even though it s the first time I have seen the film, I have seen this scene countless times as it's one of the most famous scenes of all time, so its effect I guess was a bit diluted for me. Up to this point I am thinking meh, so so, nothing great. Then we start with the private investigator poking his nose in, and clearly unsetteling Mr Bates and then we arrive at the part when Mr PI goes up to the house.....

From the beginning when he walks up the stairs with this twinkling, twilighty music in the back ground (like assending to heaven it seemed to me to meet his maker) to the end (when he is descending after seeing hell), I will never forget the impact this scene had on me. I was tricked into thinking that Bates was downstairs. As he begins to walk up the stairs, a door cracks open and a shaft of light appears, some how in my mind I think this is a door under the stairs. As Mr PI gets to the landing, all Hell breaks loose (and I'll never forget it) I literally fire myself backwards into the sofa and scream FFFFFUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!! at the top of my voice. Bates is upstairs not downstairs and the split second pandemonium (with the classic violin shrieks) terrifies the living daylights out of me. The flowery dress and image of old grey lady with the blinding light of the butchers knife sent my brain haywire.

10 out of 10. Easy.

well done. this made me want to watch it all over again.

Shame - Steve McQueen's Ineffectual look at sex addiction with Fassbender and Mulligan. Tries really hard to be a cool film. Fails everywhere. Bored shitless by halfway point. Slightly less bored as it went on but ultimately glad when it finished. On the whole, Utterly pointless 99 minutes. Carey Mulligan nude / 10

Safety Not Guaranteed - 7/10 enjoyable

The Campaign - 7/10 also enjoyable

Hunger Games - Pretty much a perfect blockbuster sci-fi movie. Jennifer Lawrence and the actor who plays Peeta more or less carried the movie, especially Lawrence. I thought she was outstanding. The biggest surprise for me was that it came from Gary Ross, he of Pleasantville / Sea Biscuit notoriety. From the time they leave the pedestals until the final fight scene, it was basically perfect. The beginning was meh and the ending was terrible. Overall, still great.

It helps that I don't know or particularly care about the accusations of plagiarism. After all, every movie about a dystopian future gets accused of plagiarizing 1984, etc.

whoah. Yeah I just saw this on an in-flight movie. Was funny because I started with no expectations, but then the expectations built, as our plane's AV system was having difficulties as I was only able to watch the film for 5 minute stretches before it would reboot. Watching it like that kind of matched the film's editing style.

Anyhoo, I also liked the film, but grew quite bored with it once the actual "hunger game" began - everything after that point seemed extremely predictable and formulaic (just how many TV shows, movies, and frigging cartoons have we seen a hornet's nest knocked out of a tree in?) Up until that point though, I was pretty engaged. My favorite aspect by far was the costume and set design in the capital. I thought it was the most realistic depiction of plausible future fashion I've seen. They all deserve awards for that, for sure.

And yeah, Jennifer Lawrence was pretty good, even with her foetus-like "now-she-looks-gorgeous, now-she-looks-like-trailer-trash" ephemeral beauty.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

god bless america

4/10

good, and quite bad

the last seduction

7.8/10

pretty good.

Avengers: Quite good. With all the crazy characters put together battling for screentime, it felt like they all lost some substance. But whatever. Hulk was wicked.

The Hunger Games: Okay, so it's a blatant ripoff of Battle Royale. Stylistically, it's like a mix between 1984 and a Tarsem Singh flick of your choice. But aside from all the teen novel emo bullshit, this movie is fucking awesome!
