you might need to download the latest version of java (which isn't automatically installed)...

It's most likely a java-related problem, so tinkering in the java-preferences might help. (eg. switching between 32-bit and 64 bit java).

On the net there seems to be a number of people who have the same problem, but when running on windows in a virtual machine or bootcamp performance is better.

also: you probably already have it installed. if not:

Does minecraft run on it's own VM or does it use system java? I think it uses system java on linux, but windows it is self contained. I'm not sure about mac.

I'm not that well versed in the technicalities, but OSX is more or less Unix with some Apple GUI on top of it, so I guess Minecraft runs on OSX likes it does on Linux.

Guest elliotjking

Thanks for the suggestions guys but I still can't improve it, I just read that apparently the latest java is actually still just the snow leopard version so I'm thinking hopefully once there is a lion-optimised update things will get better. I think it's my memory usage that has gone through the roof, pre-lion my usage graph on f3 was a nice flat green line, now it's a constant red spike nightmare (see screenshot)

On Linux I use some command line options to set the heap size or something. Serves me fine.

java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp /home/ego/games/minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame

Also, make sure you use the Sun/Oracle runtime.

so you can eat chicken and beef in 1.8. As if the game needs more food options.

Actually I remember Jeb talking about animals spawning less/ not despawning and baby animals. I guess you have to make a proper farm now. Cool.

check out the hunger bar. Not sure about hunger bar

maybe hunger bar controls how fast health recovers (which would mean a change in the healing model but I'm all for that).

EDIT: also notice the stacking going on, meat couldn't stack previously.

its pointless there are things that can stack, things like food take up way too much inventory slots they shouldnt do that, everything but tools should stack

built an eight step sequencer on a friend's server. stays in sync for about half a second then you get the jazzed up version of your composition. groovy.
