Something built far away weeks ago causing instability a few days ago, and Pennywise's post, both nonsense.

I just hope that we'll burn everything in the current map before reseting. That should be fun.

There are a bunch of new things that have been included. Completely new terrain generation algorithm, a bunch of new biomes, villages with new blocks, stongholds, ravines, abandoned mineshafts, new types of caves. Plus I think the map is just soo big it is annoying to have to go out to find new stuff since a lot of the areas have already been explored and it is difficult to tell what is new and what is just being generated. There is plenty of lapiz in coolville 2, but the world so overexplored it is shoddy and difficult to deal with and has performance problems. Maybe we could have multiple servers running? I could start one from home, I have a box I am not using that I could host it on.

I don't want more than one server as I think our community is too small.

We're not even sure the size of the map is what causes the server issue.

I completely disagree about the map being "soo big it is annoying to have to go out to find new stuff since a lot of the areas have already been explored and it is difficult to tell what is new and what is just being generated." I have built a cathedral just a short walk from CV1, and have found at least two very large unexplored cave networks. It's hardly like the map is "tapped out." I'm sure you realize the contradiction in what you said too; if your main desire is to be in completely virgin territory that no-one has explored, than this impulse will lead to exactly the same sort of urban sprawl in the new map, ie. we'll have to continue creating new worlds rather than being satisfied with the one we've got. Personally, I like the idea of having one world for as long as possible, it gets more and more interesting (imo).

As I said before I think if we're going to start a new map, we should install one and only one script, assuming there is one that does this - an invisible wall that prevents people from exploring too far. This would allow our world to be built in a series of concentric circles as the invisible wall is moved outward with each new update.

I agree I am kind of attached to the old map still(I have a few very distinct areas I am attached to), and what we have created.(and I could certainly live with keeping it as is). What I meant by the map being tapped out was not to do with the "usedness" of the terrain(such as explored caves, there are still plenty of unexplored, still plenty of unclaimed land). Just that the chunks have already been generated(even a lot of places that look unexplored have already been traverse and thus the chunks are already generated), and thus we would have to go even further out of our way to experience the new features(ravines, mineshafts, biomes). I think you are right about keeping it as is, maybe there is a way to "trim down" the map and keep our main areas and import it into the new environment, I could live with that as well.

why is lumpenprol so against adventuring. its like he wants everyone to be stuck in one small confined area.. the fun of minecraft is adventuring and finding new lands and coming up with ideas to build in those lands, if you stay around the same places for a long time it gets boring. youre just mad that your stuff is gonna be deleted

i like starting fresh and going on a new adventure, thats why we are resetting our server as well. also if you dont reset you wont get any of the new stuff from the update PERIOD. no new landscapes no ruins or mines or nothing. in fact i dont even think you guys have tall grass on your server, all this stuff is worthy of a reset, and i dont think there will be another big update like this for a while. at least not one that requires a new world.

I'm not against adventuring, and you completely mischaracterize my idea to have expansion in a limited, controlled way. I think everyone would agree that an explorable area with a radius of say, CV1 to CV2, would give everyone plenty of space to explore, but keep people like Babar from "walking for days just to see if I can break the server" - if indeed there is a link between size of the map and server issues. Then as further updates would come out, we could increase that radius. Makes sense to me (though not sure if it would work with the nether...)

In general there seem to be a few different kinds of Minecraft players, those who actually want to build cool stuff, and those with ADD who just want to dick around for a while and then leave. Pennywise/Pete is one of the former, so I respect his opinion. I'm not strongly against the idea of a reboot, I just think it's a shame to lose our existing structures.

Does anyone know of a script that would allow us to import part of our current map into a new map?

there is a 3rd type of person who likes to explore and adventure and do everything that minecraft has to offer. there is something fun about going off on your own or with one or two other people and making yourselves a secret village out in the wilderness in uncharted territories. thats how everyone on my server plays, theres hardly anything at the spawn point, you have to walk at least 5 mins in any direction to actually see any buildings.

and i been to watmm server and i do agree that it is too explored. its time for a reset , theres torches like everywhere and signs of ppl pissing about

ok here's what's up

some of the world data is corrupted (long story, some retard physically moved the box while it was running, probably causing the disk head to crash)

looks like it's "only" 4 regions of nether: [0,0], [0,-1], [-1, 0], [-1, -1]

for now, i replaced those regions with backup from July 11th (the most recent backup)

it looks like it's back to working normally, but those four adjacent 512x512 areas of nether are from the past.

i'm really busy with my job at the moment and unfortunately don't have the time to try and somehow fix the damage, but i suspect some of you guys might want to do it, so:

I'm only interested in a new map. I won't play the watmm server on this map anymore for all the reasons already mentioned.

Have you ever been on a roleplay server?. I was expecting it to be entertaining and funny because it thought it would be like an rpg. Basically it was some 12 year olds arguing about what year the world is in,who should be king and what the faction is called. I'm pretty sure that most of the rp servers are like this.

The funniest thing though was some guy who would go to the lake and make a campfire at night (ignited a mud block and tossed items on it to keep it alight) and then asked people to join him. No one joined him.
