there are a plenty of animals but sometimes they are just away from where you are. I think it's better to quit the spawn zone when the sun is just beginning to rise so that you have time to get far enough outdoor.

if you are lucky enough to get in when the map is new you'll find lots of animals near spawn, but if you aren't then you won't find any at all and will have to travel farther.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

i tried hcsmp and i starved to death before my pvp protection even ran out. you must have to be eating all the time... and there are no animals anywhere except for wolves.

Grow wheat, underground. They should have called it 'UndergroundFarmerSMP' instead of 'HardcoreSMP'.

So we now have a relatively easy to get to xp farm that levels you up pretty damn quick. It has two dungeon spawners feeding it. A spider one and a zombie one. It's called DA POOP CHUTE(???). So go to the nether plaza and find it. When you get there stand up top on the corner of that glass room and let them spawn. Then when the chute seems overloaded go down and relieve it with a sword(diamond recommended, iron sword will break too soon). Just stand under the iron fence and attack from below. They can't hurt you from there. Then back up on the 1 block high ladders to retrieve the xp.

^ yes this is lovely

my next project is making an underground forest at bedrock... kind of a mini survival map, you'll start at one end and there wont be any lighting in the forest. You need to find the safehouse in the forest without dying - remember there's a thick mist at that depth, so you won't know what's creeping about (see what I just did?). Hope to have it done in a week or so maybe

Hello!

Jon and I have been working on a new map format for Minecraft that we’ve dubbed “Anvil” (it’s just a name). The purpose of the new format is to prepare for modding, especially to allow for more block types, but also to improve other areas of the game (such as map height). The changes are:

  • Maximum build height has been increased to 256 (was 128)
  • Empty sections of the world are not loaded into memory
  • Block ids have been increased to 4096 (was 256) by adding a 4 bit data layer (similar to how meta data is stored)
  • Block ordering have been changed from x/z/y to y/z/x in order to improve compression
  • Packets for sending chunks have been updated (a full 128-high chunk is smaller than the old format, and a chunk with lots of empty space is much smaller)
  • Biomes are saved per x/z column, which means they can be altered by tools

The next snapshot, and Minecraft 1.2, will automatically convert worlds to the new format. The files of the current format (“McRegion”) will remain in your save folder, if you need to restore them for some reason.

I’ve prepared a converter (with source code) for tool makers that wants to be prepared. You do not need to use this to convert your maps! It’s only for reference!

Added the new world format to the svn trunk... Will be in next snapshot! Also, snapshot will probably be tomorrow, not Thursday.
