True, I wouldn't be too surprised if singles of some sort (even if they're just lifted from TKOL) crop up instead. I just Supercollider surfaces digitally as well (legitimately), I really don't fancy my chances of getting a copy on Saturday.

It is a bit of a pisstake really, £30 for 8 songs is just a bit much, can't believe there's NOTHING else included with the deluxe version.

yea im feeling a bit ripped off now

Shit. I'm going to check the internet before I open up my copy. I might just sell it if it looks crap.

supercollider and the butcher leaked.

someone played the record on a very shitty player and recorded them with their phone.

is this part of the innovative release method they were talking about?

Reserved a copy of SC/Butcher at my local... Going to go pick it up after work tomorrow

My local shop won't do that, apparently after putting stuff aside for people last year the organisers got wind of it and threatened to withhold any records this time around.

I don't like this album any more. It's boring my tits off. :cerious:

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Well you're paying for the packaging an all that innit. Hell I paid £45 (erm, I think, it was a few years ago) for Analord 10 with the binder and that was just two songs ....

If you wanted it just for the music you should've just picked up the CD version for £7.99

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Yeah, remember umming and ahhing about getting that a few years ago - thing is, at least you knew up front what you were getting with that, it was quite clearly sold as a single 12" + binder (with the implication it would have pretty high resale value).

The radiohead thing was just offered as 'radiohead's newspaper album', no further info. Given the bonus stuff included with their last release it wasn't unreasonable to expect something a bit more.

If they'd been clear when selling that it was just '8-track album plus fancy packaging' I'd probably have just got the vinyl release that came out a couple of weeks back, saved a bit of money.

Can't remember if anybody's commented already, but it is an odd schedule for any release, by Radiohead or anyone else. The fancily packaged version usually comes out first, to be replaced by the bog standard release once the limited edition or whatever has petered out. I've no problem with buying a release for the packaging alone, but for RH to release the Newspaper edition months after the basic strikes me as very odd. I don't want to go all BoC Fanboi, but if I read that article properly Ed O'Brien just said that another album wasn't going to be released. That's not to say that there won't be any more music at all forthcoming in the Newspaper version or elsewhere, as jules has already suggested.

Noone forced me to cough up £30 sight unseen for TKOL, the disappointing thing for me is that after more than three years we've got just over 37 minutes and 8 tracks (barring the Record Store Day single), and that doesn't seem a lot if there's going to be another 2+ year wait for the next album.

Very true young man, them using the rather vague term of newspaper album certainly didn't make it clear what you were getting. Not quite sure in what form the 625 pieces of artwork will take either, certainly going to have to open it carefully .......

Guest bitroast

i dont see how the description for the newspaper album at all suggested or implied there being additional music.

its not exactly the kinda thing you give away as a surprise. bonus music is something you'd use as a selling point!!

the comments by ed about there being no new music is a bit disapointing though. it seems like they have some rather incredibly nice tracks up their sleeves.

the reason i feel a bit disappointed is because i had to buy the special edition of this album completely blind. i had no reason to think the band would let me down by any stretch of the imagination because of how they have been in the past. if they posted the tracklist and track times before asking for $50, i probably would have skipped the special edition this time. Thats all i am saying. im sure its going to be cool and all but by the time i get the actual newspaper album im probably going to flip through it and put it away because im pretty sick of the album now since its so short.

im not pissed and its not like im going to sell it on ebay or anything, i just feel a little bit let down. they have avoided all interviews for this and after talking about an innovative new release plan it shouldn't be hard to understand why people are a tad disappointed.

Even without hearing these two new songs I can tell you, they SHOULD HAVE been on the album.

would be very suprised if they was no new music in the newspaper jobby, by new I mean unheard might just be remixes, alt versions or old unheard tracks but gotta be something surely!? anyhow dont really give a fuck cause I didnt order it! :)

Hm, I've gone through quite a few pages of this thread and not found any thoughts about the album itself. Anyone heard it yet? The grooves on certain tracks keep switching around for me each time I listen, since a lot of the rhythms have no obvious downbeat. I finally heard the groove that I think they intended for Morning Mr. Magpie on my third listen, and it suddenly went from being an interesting song to a great one. I still think I'm hearing the Little by Little rhythm as something completely different from what it's supposed to be, especially when it kicks back in for the last verse... like what my mind is considering to be the first beat of the bar is half way between two quarter notes or something. Makes for a very strange listening experience, but I like it. I wonder if they deliberately arranged the rhythms so they could be interpreted multiple ways like that. The same thing happens to me a lot when I listen to Cylob, though when it happens with his music it makes the melodies sound absolutely ridiculous. When it happens during a Radiohead song, it still ends up sounding musical.

Codex and Give up the Ghost are smooth as silk.

Also, are people paying stupid amounts of extra money for the newspaper? Mine came free with the CD when I purchased it. It's a cute little addition.

maybe you missed the pages where some of the music was discussed? I don't know but that was a lovely post man.

Heheh, yeah I finally opened this thread to see what the watmm consensus was on the new Radiohead, and in about 4 pages all I found was discussion about the packaging and speculation about what's coming next.

I love it when that happens in a lot of music where the placement of the downbeat isn't obvious until the melody kicks in or something. I've never heard a track where it seemed like the composer was deliberately playing with that for the whole track though. I'd like to try doing that soon.

Give up the Ghost is my favorite at the moment. Still haven't received my Newspaper album in the mail yet. I forgot when it is supposed to ship.
