I don't think I have the willpower to break open the bag. It's sitting in a protective sleeve right now, and will probably remain unopened while I consider eBay in a few years.

faark. you guys have an extra protective sleep in addition to the plastic bag it comes in??

no it's in that plastic bag, just havent ripped that open. I assume the 12s are inside the folded newspaper.

i feel a slight inbalance between my packaged and mint condition of KoL, and my out in the open road to death copy of Universal Sigh that was given out for free to every lucky chap on the street.

i wonder which will have more value. the album which came conveniently enough within a plastic casing and no fans dared open, or a good copy free newspaper that was man handled and distributed on the street... for free...

wait a min, so there was no extra music at all in the "newpaper" thingy? Do you not feel a bit skanked? think thats pretty poor of them not to put something extra in it.

I do. I bought it knowing nothing - though I obviously love Radiohead. When I listened to the mp3 version a few times I really hoped I'd be getting more for my £30 - if not music, at least some other media. But no...

I am bored of the actual newspaper now, which wasn't that great, and vinyl shouldn't really have bumped it up to £30 imo (not to mention the fact it's the exact same album). I'm not just winging for the sake of it, I really am disappointed. All other more expensive limited edition things I've got have had extra media... in some instances, quite a bit.

You get 2 digital bonus tracks

Yeah, I feel a bit ungrateful moaning because the album itself is really good, but I remember being intrigued when they announced the 'first ever newspaper album'. For £30 I was expecting something pretty interesting.

Turned out it's the LP, with a CD/mp3 copy, and a...newspaper.

Super collider/The butcher? If so I got them anyway just from ordering the mp3 album so not sure they really count. I think the albums really good but I would have been pissed off if I bought the limited edition thing and go no extra music, I honestly just assumed there must be something extra! and bet lots of people who bought it thought the same.

I am definitely not complaining. The package is fantastic, and I don't care that there isn't any bonus music in it. The way I see this - I paid the band directly, which is a great opportunity when it comes up, and I got something really cool looking and special to put on my record shelf. Plus, 2x10" > 12".

Dunno, maybe I'm just one of the few who is still quite impressed with lavish release packaging.

You are definitely not alone there. And I'm really glad I ordered this now (and opened it), I love some of the imagery in the newspaper itself. How does the vinyl sound? Not able to play mine yet.

I haven't thrown the wax on yet because I'm waiting on a replacement needle for my turntable, though I am curious considering colored/clear vinyl can either sound solid or terrible.

But yeah - re-reading my post I wanted to clarify that lavish packaging is only as great as it is in this case when the music is actually great as well. You can get away with terrible album art if the music is good, but there's no way in hell I'm buying a beautifully packaged deluxe release if the music is meh. Something like Warp 20 or Eno's album on Warp spring to mind...

When it arrived I carefully opened it, read the newspaper and looked at everything and slotted it back in the plastic bag and back in the cardboard envelope and squirreled it away. I went over to my record player the other day to find that I had drunkenly emptied the bag out and flung everything everywhere and played the records, both of them were on the turntable and underneath them was my LP of disco covers of sci-fi movie themes. I must have had a good night. Needless to say I sweated profusely and carefully packed it all away and will never listen to music drunk ever again.

Overall though it's pretty cool, it's such an awkward piece that I don't know where I'm supposed to put it though.

I don't know, I just received the Amon Tobin 'ISAM' book thing for a third of the price (I wasn't actually expecting it, I thought I had only ordered a regular CD case version, if that even exists) and it feels a lot more 'quality' than the newspaper album. But I guess you don't get vinyl.

this does not really excite me.

edit: unless we are getting some heavy hitters like a burial remix or something along those lines. at this point a flying lotus remix is a lock. I'd guess codex from him.
