So January in Australia is the middle of Summer? For some reason I have difficulty researching which seasons are which in different hemispheres. The info would be useful to me as I am growing some Australian plants and am attempting to acclimate them up here so knowing what this time of year is like there would be useful!

pls.

Rain Over Mountain is out now; 100% of Bandcamp sales are donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association:

I've left my glasses in the train. Until I get myself a new pair, I have to choose between wearing none and give myself a headache, wearing an old pair that's too corective and give myself a headache or wearing contact lenses full time and give myself a headache. This is giving me a headache.

I'm torrenting many of the albums I own because it's faster than going through my CD collection and ripping everything myself.  So I'm breaking the law because following it is terribly inefficient.

I bought a couple terabyte backup drive specifically to mirror my music directories. In case my main hard drive ever crashes.

Also another option is to burn chunks of it to blu ray discs.

I did that too in case my backup drive fails >.<

edit: assuming you must have had a hard drive crash or something? I am running Yadis! Backup. Auto writes my music folders to wherever I designate. It's free and I haven't had any issues so far.

lol I've done this. With a CD I can see on a shelf 4ft away.

*googles [albumtitle] 320 zip*

maybe if you didn't have to reach past that build a giant bumble bee box your discs would be more accessible?

No HD crash here.  I just have a 700+ CD collection and I've only ripped maybe 1/10th of it.  There's no way it's ever going to happen. So when I want to hear something from it I usually just head straight to pirate bay.  Otherwise I have to find the CD (they're all in boxes), rip it onto my super slow old lap top, transfer it to an external drive, then transfer it to my current lap top.  So many steps!  So unless it's super rare, I just torrent.

huh... I too have a huge CD collection but I always just ripped albums as soon as I got them, and I've been maintaining the same files (copied from hard drive to hard drive) ever since.

Does the sound quality of digi files degrade when copied so many times over time? =/

I used to have a discman and never listened to mp3s, so I bought a lot and never ripped any of it.

If you're just copying a file the quality will always remain the same.  Is that what you mean?

no, although the same file will degrade over time with multiple playbacks due to bit erosion. in fact, the easiest way around this is to simply make a new copy while it's still premium-grade and keep copying that forward.

Not to be confused with the music losing quality from playback in the same way that a vinyl record does from the needle over many plays. Rather, the storage medium degrades over time, so keep making backups to new media and verify that your files are uncorrupted from one backup to another rather than potentially copying over a good file with a now corrupted one (at least I think that is what you're referring to).

you done blown up ma goof.

I just found out I was inexplicably and involuntarily logged out of FB. Then I had to go thru some profile/identity confirmation bullshit "for security reasons." And at the end, I got a message saying something like "to prevent this from happening again, please review our Community Standards."

I think somebody reported me. Presumably for speaking out against Trump, his supporters, and his policies. I'd be damned if any press, media, or commentary not adhering to Trump's liking be censored. Fuck that shit.

In the meantime, I'm probably due for a password change anyway.

Technically, in the UK it is illegal to rip a CD you own to your computer, regardless of it being a personal copy. In fact, any kind of format shift is illegal here. Not that a single soul has been prosecuted but the law is still outdated and quite strange. iTunes is complicit in the crime too and liable.

If I told a police officer I saw a man rip a CD to his computer if they would take action?

trying to move to a new city (well, need to, not trying...) and finding a place to rent is turning into a huge headache. a few months ago there were all sorts of places i liked and could afford, now for weeks there's been nothing and i have to be out of my apartment this month! :wtf:

GHOST: have you killed Claudius yet
