GESCOM - Skull Snap

This represents my introduction to Gescom (maybe not a very representative one as this release seems very different from the other ones).

Anyway, I'm quite very positively surprised about it. I'm not very familiar with it yet but it's definitely growing on me. Notably, the first track is playing in my head quite often these days and I found it has a very unique something. It's epic. This might be the emulation of discovering something new, but I think I can say I haven't heard a so good track in a long time. Experimental an powerful. I love the contrast there's between the very-low filtered beautiful melody of the beginning and that noisy synth/snare sounds that jumps in right in the face.

I'm impressed

I got it a while back but been spinning it a lot recently, its pretty laid back & old school but i really like that.

For a OFF year, 2011 was pretty autechrian : Gescom ep, 2 unreleased tracks on compilations, hours of Ae vs H3O on dvd and the Lego Feet reissue.

I need someone to tell me I'm crazy here, but I was just listening to the Megamix from ISS:SA (2003), and fuck me, but is that not a megamix of Skull Snap (2011)? With maybe some TR2A thrown in just to make sense?

What the fuck am I even smoking?

Should probably re-listen to skull snap before accusing gescom of rending the fabric of space and time.

Did I just BOC this subforum? I'm sorry.

Yeah.. this is in my 'to listen' pile; I listened once and then let a friend borrow it for most of the year, haha. Only just got it back! Think I'll have to give it a spin again this weekend.

Alright, so I was sure a couple textures and micro-cadences in the megamix shared source material with skull snap, but the megamix is so finely-grained that any attempts to pin it down are pretty confounding. Chalk it up to wishful thinking and a shared overwhelmingly funky aesthetic.

But confirmed: Gescom is masterful with teh hippity hops. Skull Snap is so much fun. Need more.

(If anyone can spot source material in megamix, I'd love to know what's in there, but that probably requires a separate thread in the ae subforum)

this thread just got me to relisten to this. don't think i have since i first got it. it's quite good. lots of cool grooves mixed with plenty of oddness. a logical step after A1-D1.

AFAIK the answer is no. I'd gladly pay for a digital if it existed, however certain forum members would have you believe that if you aren't balls deep into vinyl then you don't 'get' gescom.
