hey i still use MiniDisc

same here, sometimes. but not as much as i did about 10 years ago. vinyl has stayed fairly strong throughout everything, tho.

minidisc kinda came and went pretty fast. and obviously CD is still around, but will probably die out over the next 5-10 years a bit like minidisc did.. cos nobody wants/needs them anymore. there's obv. still a (fairly big) market for vinyl, tho. and even cassette tapes... Fuck CD, i say.

This is great in principle, but a 6-track ep at a ltd edition price + ship (if you don't happen to live in the uk) costs an obscene amount of money. Then there's the time & effort to get it ripped, provided you even have the equipment/means to do so.

On the other hand, pirating is fast, easy, and free. I'm not condoning it, just callin' a spade a spade.

Speaking of easy, it's also relatively easy for an artist or label to put up a digital version. And it doesn't diminish the value of the physical product either, as there's no shortage of fanboys and vinyl fetishists willing to splash out the cash. Plus you're capturing revenue from the portion of the fanbase uninterested in buying the vinyl. It's actually pretty foolish not to offer a digital version.

I think shipping to Ireland was 2 euro.

I know it must be hard looking at this from the perspective of a non-vinyl-enthusiast, but such persons will, if given the option, either

a) Buy a legit digital copy ("real fans")

b) Bootleg a rip

Realistically nobody's going to do the joyrex thing. If gescom doesn't want a cut of the 8 quid or whatever a download would cost it's their prerogative to throw money away. It's 2011, going vinyl-only does reek of arrogance & disdain for your fan base, and McLovely's reaction is to be expected.

Skam don't have anything to do with PIAS, as far as I know.

it seems that Skam haven't even got stock themselves yet. I emailed Skam a few weeks back, asking about when it'd be available on their site for preorder (as I'd rather buy from them, but didn't wanna miss out on a limited release). Never got a reply. It's still not available on their site for preorder, so something's gone wrong somewhere probably.
