I don't know what happened, but I'm not going to fix that burger

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Wow-  fuck, man.  Hello, all.  I haven’t been here in ages, but I just came by to say goodbye.

I had a lot of fun here back in the day and made a lot of online friends and met up with some of you in life, as well.

Thank you all for being there for me back in the day, to make life better.

This shit reminds me of when the Planet Mu Phorum was shutdown (IIRC it was primarily because there was so much shit talking about Mary Anne Hobbs, and Mike P also wanted a more professional image for the label), so braindance.co.uk was made and all the regulars went there.  And then that died.

I didn’t even care when warpcomm died, but WATMM- man, that’s quite something.

Fucked up thing is that I always thought I’d come back here regularly, after finishing some IDM magnum opus, but then nearly 10 years flashed by like nothing, and I’m still trying to find the new sound.  -I actually did that in real life, as well, back in the day, where I didn’t go to family reunions and shit like that, because I was working on so many projects and thought, “I’ll see them when I’m done.”  —Turns out you wait too long, and people actually get old and also die.

Gotta respect and love the now as much as possible, because it turns out there’s no way to ever go back.  I just hope my time away from here was worth it.  But I do know that when I hung out here regularly, it was definitely worth it.

To everyone I’ve bantered with here back in the day and had nonsensical blasts with, I’ve actually missed you all since I left.

If you’re ever on reddit, I’m peepeeland there.  Chat with me anytime you want.

Not sure exactly what’s going on inside me, but- hearing that WATMM is gonna be done, makes me want to kick ass at life even more.  There will only ever be one WATMM, and I hope you all make the best out of your one life.

Thank you all, and also, thank you all.

p.s.  How da fuck did xltronic end up being the last survivor.  I suppose that’s the power of +260 pixels.  If electronic music forums had stocks, xltronic just went up big time.

Yo maang! Happy to see you again! Come by sometime! we still have time; maybe more than we think

I have been here since 2008 and didn't get permabanned like I did on Rllmuk.

This is a sad time but the way the world goes.

IDM will never die but WATMM will.

i know idm can be extreme, but thats no reason to shut down watmm

would be quite good if a new plan was made

Yo, mang~  Happy to see you, too!  🙂

Yah, I might drop by more for the last months.

“maybe more than we think”

xltronic was gonna go offline like 15+ years ago, and then it just… stayed online.  Maybe Joyrex will leave it on autopilot, as some sort of living antique.

If nothing else, it's been a joy seeing all these old accounts spring back to life for a brief moment.

I think I've just thought of the perfect solution-

Why doesn't Joyrex just change his mind and keep the site? Problem solved.

This reminds me of the time my grandad asked one of my uncles to tell the family he had died so he could gauge everyone's reaction to him dying. Joyrex isn't actually going to close WATMM, he just wants to know what people think about him.

Thanks very much Joyrex for all these years, this place is super special and will be missed ❤️

(tangentially related, it's sad to see the old Internet slowly dying: WATMM is the second last remaining bulletin board forum I frequent)

Wow... thanks for everyone sharing their thoughts and feelings.

While I appreciate your sentiments to carry on, I don't think I conveyed well my intent in wanting to shut down WATMM.

I don't want the site to continue on, in any form - I know a lot of people get a lot of benefit from it, but I do not want it continuing and going in a direction I would not agree with had I continued to administer the site.

Of course, I can't stop anyone from doing their own thing, but for me personally, I think it's time for We Are The Music Makers/WATMM to end.

I would respectfully ask that whatever you want to do, please don't associate it with WATMM/me or make any reference/connection to me. WATMM had it's time, it's place. Time to move on. There's been some good suggestions of alternate names and ideas, so I encourage you to go with that.

Also, June 3rd might have been a bit optimistic of me - right now we've got enough to cover February's hosting, and depending on if the Google AdSense gets over 100 USD for a payout (Google won't pay out until the ad revenue hits 100 USD), we might make it to April. If that is in danger of happening, I'll let you all know, but please don't go sending money via PayPal right now - not only will that cause me more work (refunding any overages), but it puts a potential tax burden on me (I know real life stuff).

Well there it is, time for something new

Honestly I can respect that. It did a good thing during its run, and I can understand the desire to not have that legacy sullied if it ended up going off the rails under somebody else. I'm sure a lot of people here will feel entitled to you giving others a chance and taking that risk, but I'm not among them.

And I should hope nobody would disagree with your desire to not try to grab the WATMM name with something new.

Going that direction, would you be opposed to ideas that would make the rich database of discussions from WATMM available in some form, if it wasn't trying to actively make a new site a continuation? What I mean is, even if we're going to come up with a fresh new forum, I think a lot of people would at least like to have the "old WATMM" threads archived somewhere and searchable.
