for those who think Squarepusher has never done anything like this before have those not heard or forgotten Music for the Rotted one note?

also i just listened to both albums back to back last night. Try doing the same thing if you dare! its hard to deny how much better mixed the similar concept album of Rotted one note is.

i dont think its unfair to criticize spusher on this point, very often does he have amazing conceptual musical executions put through the filter of a not so great mix.

most of the reaction towards this album are the scientifical/rationnal proof watmmers have shit tastes (& explains why they're still doing threads about nin gayness or 9/11 being made by armies of klingons).

LONG LIVES THE SQUAREPUSHER

QFT

Music Is Rotted One Note is probably my favorite Squarepusher album after Hard Normal Daddy and it kicks the shit out of this. It had a tighter concept, better mixing, and way better composition in my opinion. Just listen to Don't Go Plastic or Dust Switch and compare it to any track on this album.

That said, I do like a couple tracks on this, mainly the ones at the beginning, but it just doesn't hold a candle to his older stuff.

agree wholeheartedly , hehe and yes the 1st two tracks to me actually sound like from a different concept or session. especially track 1 which sounds more like it belongs on Hello Everything than on this lp.

Music for the rotted one note i think is my new favorite, listening to it again last night reminded me of how amazing it is.

i just noticed that the fast guitar bit from Yes Sequitir is a faster version of the guitar bit in Circlewave 2 from Hello Everything

what becuase we are fans we're supposed to be all over his poop?

no just supposed to realize that it doesnt matter if you think you could have done a better mix.

i think it really does matter and i consider myself a huge fan of his.

we all think of things that could make an album more suitable to our tastes...but it's not our music. for example i think it's too bad he didnt put totally apeshit drum rolls from 1:58 to 2:22 in delta-v but my point is that he's an accomplished musician and while you or i might have mastered or conceptualized the album differently, this is where he's at and it's no mistake.

only a few listens in, but at this point i'm hearing moments of genius sprinkled in all over the place. moments of genius. there are also moments where it sounds like a retard banging away in his garage, so it's hard to say if it's good overall or not.

only time will tell.

i gotta admit I liked rotted one note better so far, but I haven't given JAS enough fair listens.

not sure he could do anything worse than Rotted One Note. JaS certainly better.

tom doing what he does best, dividing opinion :)

i love this album after a few listens. and i think if you contrast it with say go plastic, the sheer breadth of his talent is quite scary.

i like a real woman

but i dont think ill be buying this album based on the bleep samples

:(

But I definitely will be buying this album based on listening to Planet Gear from SLSK

:)

FUCK YEAH

speaking of, anyone any idea what mode the descending synth line at the start is in? i'm reckoning lydian..

edit: or maybe it's a processed bass. it's that melody that sounds like the future which i'm on about. 2:20 onwards sounds like rush. awesomes.

sounds like the successor to Music is Rotted. this was the album he needed to do instead of Hello Everything. nice nice.

are we talking about planet gear? all i hear at the start is the gruff guitary sounding noise and an eerie, almost toneless synth wail that doesnt regularly descend.

or if you mean the bit at 1.04 its almost modal but the chord shifts pretty much makes it atonal, i heard one modulation through the diminished 5th so overall i would say that part is atonal.

very nice use of a pedal in this melody though, its actually pretty nice.

i think there's obviously some good stuff and some less good stuff in 'souvenir'. I'm not very much into guitar music (or rather very much not) so if tom's able to make me listen to guitars, it means there must be some quality in there. Or is it only his legacy that makes me listen to it? maybe it's too early to judge..

anyway i haven't listened to "hello everything" for more than 15-20 times, while i've played the shit out of his earlier stuff. i'm curious how things will go with this one. I'll keep you anxious readers informed.

oooo considering how good exciton was, could be decent.

derek bailey to django reinhardt to jimi hendrix to kevin shields, all demolished in a single sentence :fee:

tom has actually become an excellent guitarist with a very individual style. sounds like it's all nylon-string stuff, which sorta makes sense cos he plays it a bit like a six-string bass.
