And MGF earlier said that only guys like Ae because only lonely nerds listen to Ae. While that might be true to an extent, it would be more true to say that there are plenty of Ae fans that also aren't lonely nerds, and even if that isn't true there are still a fairly good handful of lonely female nerds.

But yeah if you wanna open someone's eyes to Ae just get them to actively listen. Don't try to hold a convo while it's on, just tell them its the kind of music you need to just be quiet and listen to, and pay total attention. Some girls, or really people in general, will not be open minded enough to go along with this, but to each their own. I like to push a little bit more with Ae than with other music though because the fetal stage of an Ae obsession is a difficult period, but the music has so much magic to it that I feel I'd be letting my friends down by not trying to expose them to the music enough times that some of it should have 'clicked' with them.

A girl asked me what my favourite Autechre song was. I recommended Eutow (my favourite "nice" Ae track). She loved it.

I was going to pipe in with a bigoted rambling about how girls would never listen to Autechre or barely any other non-accessible type of music but then I saw stuff like "my and my gf's song is [autechre track here]" and now... well you can imagine my frustration, my girlfriend doesn't even listen to music.

My ex liked a lot of Autechre (not that she was a huge fan), but not so much Confield-Gantz-Draft. I didn't really force her to listen to that; I tested the waters once with Surripere in the car and she was all: :wtf:

I think she would have politely agreed that it's praiseworthy and patted me on the knee, but she wasn't going to ask for a mix tape.

Most of my guy friends, on the other hand, would just say it's shit and not even feign interest.

This is a really good starting point for sure. Clipper would closely follow IMO. Eutow and Clipper were the first two Ae tracks I could tolerate, and Rpeg came right after. Now look at me!

i think if i hadn't been into experimental music in general and active in the local 'scene' i would never have met girls who were into autechre or other forms of music that are challenging and interesting to listen to. actually most people i've met who are into autechre are into a LOT of other music as well.. and they are all REALLY into music. likewise some of them have got me into interesting music i might never otherwise have heard or gotten into.. like krautrock and black metal and industrial

people who are completely reactionary about music, well they just aren't going to get into autechre. they don't listen to music to explore new concepts or ideas.. they want their strings pulled. it's a waste of time imo
