Compare that to, say, the Lamb concert I went to where it was 70/30 in favour of women. I someone said that Lamb appealed to women more than men I'd shrug and say "hmmm... maybe you're right".

Makes note: "Lamb".

But a little more seriously my girlfriend said Untilted sounds good when I played it sometime ago. She does not seem to like the more ambient or mellow pieces and just recently said that Outpt was too repetitive.. She also thinks that BOC is too placid and boring. :cerious:

i also don't think there's anything wrong with wanting a partner that appreciates the same music as you. there are few things better than putting on an album you both adore and getting sexy to it.

I don't think it's unreasonable to concluded that the majority of Autechre fans are male. Of course there are female fans, but the concert I went to was probably a 70/30 spilt at best.

Also, mutually shared great music sex is the best sex!

I love Autechre, my favourite musical artist, but I would imagine most Autechre fans are male. I would guess that a fair portion of the autechre audience are mathematicians, computer-types, tech-heads, like to unwind with drugs, etc, interests more commonly associated with men.

Most importantly, I would guess that most of us became Autechre fans in that 15-25yo age range, and probably had to listen to certain other types of music beforehand to be able to appreciate Autechre. I cant exactly imagine a lot of older folk 'getting in' to Autechre, so maybe you need to really listen to Autechre in your youth to love it. Put simply, Autechre fans are more likely to be nerdy than, say, David Guetta fans.

Then there is gender conditioning, and so naturally genres like metal, Hip-hop and IDM are often seen as un-feminine. I think an appreciation of the rhythms of metal and hip-hop music assist in appreciating Autechre.

There are women out there that love Autechre as well. Hell, I very rarely meet guys that have even heard of Autechre, let alone like them :( But that's okay, Autechre is a rather personal type of music best listened to alone, so I dont mind so much. I'd be worried that a date would think im crazy and run away if I started blaring Untilted in the car :D

"Women are simply more consultative beings than men are. For whatever reason, they are more timid about making bold statements and deviating from normalcy. They can't shop for clothes alone, they can't judge men alone, and they can't even urinate alone. They support each other through groupthink. Because of this, the average woman's musical taste is more bland and typical. They don't want to be "on the outside".

"But wait," you might say "not all girls listen to pop music exclusively." This is correct. Some women do indeed venture outside of society's musical comfort zone, but their reasons for doing so are rarely musically-motivated. These women are simply looking for a scene or subculture to wedge themselves into, using music as another fashion tool. It's all about image. How many "artsy" girls do you know who insist that their taste is "atypical", "unique", or "eclectic" who have an iPod full of the same girl-friendly, Pitchfork-approved artists like Radiohead, Sigur Ros, and the like? Quite a few, I'd wager. Women are generally considered to have bad taste because they lack any true interest in musical discovery.

Want further proof? How many girls do you know who are into Noise? Who are into Krautrock? Rock in Opposition? Classical avant-garde? Not many. This is because these styles of music, while unique, cutting-edge, and extremely rewarding, have no fashion culture built around them, and no cute boys who listen to and perform these types of music. Music is another article of clothing for women, and it makes basement-dwelling experts froth at the mouth whenever females claim otherwise."

i can't tell if this is a troll or just a forever alone. in any case, the quote is upsettingly mean and dehumanizing.

my girl does not like ae. it goes as far as I can play any kind of random autechre track she doesn't know she will instantly dislike it even if its hidden between others he does not know ether. She said it might be because most of them have some kind of abstract hiphop groove going on and she does not like hiphop. That also makes her hate most of Tippers work sadly. She is very much into Plaid, AFX and EOD on the other hand.

My girlfriend owns more Autechre than me.

BoC are too boring.

i am pretty sure women don't have the mental hardware to get into autechre

lmfao!

But seriously, Confield is definitely the best sex music ever made. Nothing turns a girl on more than the warbly dissonant cacophony of noise that is Bine.

lol this thread is ridiculous. my girlfriend loves autechre. i think her favorite is oversteps. she always says they made oversteps for the ladies.

edit - if you're with someone who doesn't share your musical tastes, dump them and find a real woman. *cue squarepusher*

My ex liked a lot of Autechre (not that she was a huge fan), but not so much Confield-Gantz-Draft. I didn't really force her to listen to that; I tested the waters once with Surripere in the car and she was all: biggrin.gif:rolleyes:dry.gifmellow.gif:wtf: :wtf: :wtf::whistling:

I think she would have politely agreed that it's praiseworthy and patted me on the knee, but she wasn't going to ask for a mix tape.

Most of my guy friends, on the other hand, would just say it's shit and not even feign interest.

awh, we got back together after this, awh

If you were as cool as me, girls would learn to like Autechre just to impress you.
