I don't think there's anything inherently more male than female in Autechre's music. It's pretty abstract. But there seems to be a male bias in the listeners. It might be that the fan base has historically just formed that way, but I'm not going to speculate further.

Anyway, I would not mind as a Björk fan if someone posted in a Björk forum a topic about "how to get a boyfriend to like Björk". All in good fun. I would be more like "Hello, ladies! I like Björk. " Well, until someone posted that men are cold, emotionless creatures that are neurologically incapable of understanding the depth of Björk's music. Then I would silently weep and take the rest of the day off.

There are women who are Ae geeks. But I can guarantee you, almost all of them wouldn't be interested in men who treat what may be their favourite band as a boys-only club.

It's true; the only way I listen to Autechre is under my bunk-bed-missing-the-bottom-bed where I construct a sheet and pillow fort using the Panasonic stereo we have that can run off of batteries and has an LCD screen of a stick figure dude dancing. Sometimes I do this while playing a text adventure or I log on to ICQ to chat with my friends after I sign on to the Internet through an AOL subscription, but sometimes my mom decides to make a phone call and I have to play 3D Space Cadet Pinball while I wait for her to finish up.
