if not notch, it would have been another. what you really need to do is go back and kill the guys who came up with dwarf fortress and infiniminer. but then, they were inspired by other people too, tl;dr you're fucked.

im not too keen either, i'll do what everyone else wants though. But my vote is stay on the map we have now

well, i'm on the fence really. if a consensus toward a new map is clear, i'll go with it. that's my position.

should i get into this game? i'm interested for the sheer fact that it looks like virtual legos. do i need to farm for materials and stuff to get pieces? I kind of just want to build

Wood and cobblestone/stone are ridiculously abundant and are the basics people build things out of. It isn't really anything you have to farm for. You just end up with tons of it. I mean, you kinda have to farm wood but not really. Trees can be grown instantly and every tree drops 3-4 saplings to plant more so it's very renewable.

 

Building materials you have to go out of your way to get are:

 

Clay for bricks. Very rare and people pretty much got all that was in the area.

Sand for sandstone and glass. Common but people gathered all that is in the area so you have to travel to find more.

Glowstone, it spawns in risky and weird places(the ceiling in huge caves) and takes time to safely gather.

Mossy Cobblestone, only spawns in dungeons which are rare.

 

 

 

As for changing maps I want to but mostly because I think we could make some bad ass stuff on Gargamel. The only thing that would really bug me is having to remake a mob farm.

i don't understand the desire for a new seed much at all. It won't stop the problem of people spreading out and doing their own thing. That's a natural part of the community's evolution (plus portals). Yeah, we'd have access to some new resources, but...I like the idea of an evolving environment that keeps changing over time as new buildings get added and old ones destroyed. I like CV1 and I like all the structures I've built. I like wandering around and looking at other people's creations.

 

I'm not active much these days due to my slow China connection, so I guess you guys do what you wanna do. But I don't want to build my cathedral again from scratch. Meh...

thanks for the breakdown couch. i'm down to play wherever. jus worried that if it's overly-congested i may trample on other people's creations

the issue of space is complete bullshit. Go into the nether, walk a bit(literally 40 blocks), build a portal,BAM! A new area with lots of space. Anyone who left cos of the space issue is not gonna be around very long on a new map

I just want a new area that has ridiculously cool landscaping, and a new seed could achieve that.

 

Let's just walk out into the far lands and build out there.

I would prefer building on top of other structures. people are moving out of the main city as you feel like in a sacred untouchable place next to the spawn point as everything looks so polished. why not making it a common thing to continue building on other peoples stuff instead of creating more and more of a museum you are allowed to stare but not to touch. its also getting boring as people will continue to work on different projects while already finished stuff just stays as it is forever.

The only thing that is slightly annoying about the map we are on is that near the spawn we have to deal with some pre-update resource distributions in the older chunks.

That's a small issue at the moment because its only lapis and sandstone.

 

I dont think it's worth losing everything we've made to go to a map with a more interesting terrain. i'm sure we could find those places on our map anyway. We can have a rail network in the nether to a bunch of cool places. I still got do something with my big hole anyway (sounds rude)

Get more players and it wouldn't feel so desolate. =\
