that's weird he'd be complaining about people ripping off his sound when his label (with a few exceptions) is essentially a bunch of Flying Lotus proteges who emulate his style. If you were so concerned about that happening it might seem like a good idea to expand the style/direction of Brainfeeder. Not a complaint just an observation

You're absolutely right.

Yeah he's mentioned that more than once, kinda makes me scratch my head. Part of me wonders if it's alluding to some more personal and specific incident he doesn't want to go into detail about. Maybe he just gets a lot of spam from mediocre producers. There are a plethora of producers out there arguably emulating him (and like you said, on his own label), but that side-effect goes for so many breakout artists of any genre. I dunno, I remember when he was on Plug Research in 2006 and back then, albeit while he stood out to me and others, he had many aesthetically similar peers and could been on a number of labels - Alpha Pup, Anticon, Lex, Stone's Throw, Ninja Tune, even Warp from the start- and fit in quite neatly sonically.

Wow, this looks amazing. I'm so excited to see him live

I'm kinda used to people crowding the stage so it shouldn't be a problem but people should just relax at a flylo show

my problem with flying lotus is how unoriginal I find him. he sounds like he loved early Amon tobin. nothing wrong with it but he gets so much praise for originality yet I find him completely derivative of late 90s/early 00 ninja tune and prefuse type stuff as well.

but I still enjoy him

Bingo.

Here's a fun exercise I just did. Listen to LA, then listen to Supermodified. Absolutely no comparison in my eyes, both compositionally and in terms of sheer technical ability. And of course ignoring the fact that Four Ton Mantis and Marine Machines are +10 years old.

Sometimes I hate having music tastes that are essentially a generation behind me. It's impossible to bring up Tobin-Ninja Tune shit/plunderphonics (hate that term) without someone saying "like Flylo?" GAH NO. Can't stand the hype he gets for his "technical ability" really unimpressive actually sounds like it's just reason or something, never any howdedodat moments. Ever.

Anyway. New Flylo album... I mean I guess it was ok, didn't really notice it while I was working. Didn't piss me off, pretty neutral at this point. Gonna have to try harder I guess, par for the course for every FlyLo release. Never regret listening to him, just have a few too many moments of "Ohhh I wish I was listening to X, Y, Z instead... shame..." for me to really be a fan.

TL;DR:

mehhhhh my penisss

again, i don't really hate skrillex as much as i hate the people that think that sort of music has any sort of integrity. i try to be open minded, and a lot of the time i employ a "well, each to his/her own" attitude towards personal preferences such as music taste and who knows, maybe it is original in its own way, sorta like a drawing by an autistic kid.

Well, been listening to this on and off for the last couple of weeks, finally decided to give it my full attention after a couple of beers and a smoke.

It's really hitting the spot - i think this is why flying lotus has such a reputation as a stoner, his stuff sounds REALLY good under the influence.

agreed. I listened to this album on some psychadelics and it was transcendental.

I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

listening to a fly take a shit is transcendental on psychedelics too

I disagree... Though everyone's experiences with psychadelics are different... Now that I think of it, hearing a fly shit might actually be pretty impressive.

Anyways, I quite liked this album. To each their own

Yeah, this album is nothing to get angry over. Unless you bet someone your life savings that it would be better than Cosmogramma, that would be silly!

It's not like it's the musical form of fucking Prometheus.

lol

good point

Really, it's a great album! i love this new album! New concept & a good innovation musical, very subtle, melodies rather rich and easy 2 hold/retain, this album is between the accessibility and the opposite, but after several listening, we notice that the tracks follow each other one after the other, a homogeneous maid! We would say an album concept... or I make a mistake...

i'm really settling into this now. that niki randa has infectious voice sounds. this is dreamy and soothing, slowly sliding further and further under my skin

I gave this a first play through today. And I'm bit dissapointed. But it has it's moments. The second half is much better than the first.

I wish more tracks were on the level of Getting There. It's Simple and sweet.

I don't like the experimental FlyLo sound that a track like Putty Boy Strut has, its plain awful.
