Yeah, it's not like wham-in-your-face-kickassMcRadical like Cosmogramma but it's far from a crushing disappointment. Highly enjoyable, just not classic. I also have no problem with Thundercat.

This. I actually like the DMT song in spite of the aerosol-cheese lyrics.

Haha... I enjoyed it too! I was cringing at the lyrics near the beginning, but once it dissolved into more unintelligible sounds it was actually quite beautiful.*

Flying Lotus@flyinglotus

"the album art was supposed to be done by chris cunningham we did some things but he was really busy and we couldn't agree on the right thing"

That would've been interesting. Anyway, just got it in the mail yesterday and had it on 2 times in a row. It's a really fun and relaxed listening experience, but it's no L.A. The first couple of tracks are absolutely brilliant though (Getting There as my favorite) and it flows as just one long track, I think.

I still like it but the mastering is really strange in places. Is that supposed to make it sound heavy on really really bad speakers? Every time the drum kicks in it sounds like out of a plastic can (Putty Boy Strut, Getting There). When the drum is absent the mastering gets considerably better quality whise

Best thing about DMT Song is the way it flows into The Nightcaller imo

I personally think 1983 is his worst but he was still finding his way musically. this is cool, sort of a happier version of LA although LA is superior. Cosmagramma is on a completely different level entirely, id probably give best album to that

agreed. i was hoping cosmogramma was a launching pad for a mega epic monster record. i was definitely wrong. some of this is just beautiful stuff but i have trouble with the format of 18 snippets. it kind of feels lazy. some of the jazzy stuff literally sounds like a jazz band getting ready to play, and then it is done. some of the beats are great though and i like the production as well.

I agree with this completely... I would rank the albums the same way. Never liked 1983 too much, of course I heard it after the much-better LA. I think the main reason this album is disappointing to some is because it came directly after Cosmogramma, which was really just an incredible journey!

I really love the Laura Darlington track on here... up there with Infinitum for me! The first few songs and last few songs are the highlights of this album for me.

After listening to this 4 times I don't know what to say, I just have to embrace the music and not always try to "rate" Flying Lotus based on albums he released in the past.

I dig it, it's more nocturnal feeling than LA or Cosmo... It has a real flow to it as well. Cosmogramma although great, didn't exactly fit altogether.

This current livecast set is pretty sweet... I gotta say seeing Thundercat joining in and ripping those basslines live is impressive
