Never liked 1983 too much, of course I heard it after the much-better LA.

I like 1983 quite a bit, perhaps because it's the first one I heard (all that was out at the time). LA seemed murky and dark to me in comparison. I like it - and Cosmogramma - but I might even say that 1983 remains my favorite. I'll have to give it a spin this afternoon perhaps to refresh my memory.

Fuck i can't believe it but i'm not gonna buy this album right away, it doesn't sound bad but it doesn't sound so exciting as LA or cosmogramma

I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

If this was Flying Lotus' first album, i'd probably think much higher of it because FlyLo doing standard FlyLo stuff is still awesome. Still a huge fan, i don't feel like i was let down by this album. Still looking forward to new material, Cosmogramma 2.0 would be cool

So I re-listened to 1983 earlier and yeah I still like it, but maybe saying it's my favorite isn't right. They all offer something different. After that I listened to Until the Quiet Comes again, for maybe my 4th overall listen. And it grew on me, I quite like it actually. Maybe it's the right combination of all the things he's offered us in the past. It's not boring by any means, and it's not too spastic or cut-up (just the right amount).

That's pretty much what happened to me. I liked it more when I stopped thinking and just kind of listened to it, ya know? I'd rather put this on than the older ones.

i retract my boring statement. i do like it now. my son loves it too it seems. little dude claps to the beginning of pretty boy strut.

again, i don't really hate skrillex as much as i hate the people that think that sort of music has any sort of integrity. i try to be open minded, and a lot of the time i employ a "well, each to his/her own" attitude towards personal preferences such as music taste and who knows, maybe it is original in its own way, sorta like a drawing by an autistic kid.

to those that didn't like it initially, that's what you get for downloading a crappy rip and not ordering the vinyl proper and letting the hype build up while it's being delivered.

i did that with cosmogramma and held off of the mp3s so i could listen to it on some kenwoods. i enjoyed it with a slice of chocolate cake, and let me say, that was quite the sensory pleasure.

sometimes you just have to let the hype grab you, so you can really enjoy something. can't say i listen to cosmogramma much anymore, but it was era defining at the time.

to those that have, what real benefits are there in getting the collector's edition rather than the standard LP? The price is pretty reasonable, but I'm wondering if that is because the extra content isn't worth it.

Anyone see this?

I actually really dug most of what he said, the commentary on dubstep was dead-on, wish I can re-open the skrillex discussion page simply to tack on his quote as the official conclusion of the thread

Wasn't the case for me in particular.

There are no crappy rips anymore, only if you're too stupid to look around.

Gave this a proper listen through yesterday on the stereo as I just recieved my copy Friday.

This was an incredible and very psychadelic listening experience (granted, the mushrooms and 2CI were contributors to this). My stereo is in a large room, and is fairly large itself. It really gave the appropriate soundstage I think, to enjoy this. Gave the sounds and bass room to develop and stage the rest of the sounds/noise... Album doesn't sound nearly the same on headphones....

The album (with the exception of track 6, I thought track 6 was a waste of space and time) is very textured and detailed. I do not share the opinion that this is boring or "FlyLo light". It seems less spastic, more thought out and more deliberate/better executed than Cosmogramma.

Thanks, joshuatx, for sharing that interview. I also agree with his remarks concerning 'dubstep' and skrillex. Other than that, though, I don't know how helpful the rest of the interview was in terms of shedding light on his intentions.

I keep liking this more and more... a lot of times when it's over I just loop it back to the start again. Definitely don't write this album off if you've only heard it once or twice and were disappointed by this after LA & Cosmogramma. To me, it's a bit more subtle and and less erratic (or you could say more matured & focused) than Cosmogramma is. Really great album!

Fav tracks: Getting There (why so short?? what a tease...), Putty Boy Strut, Nightcaller, Phantasm, Me Yesterday // Corded (particularly the Corded section).

What are your thoughts/opinions on the Yorke song?? I love Thom Yorke, but I don't feel like he was needed here at all. It's one of my least fav songs on the album :(

great interview, i like the bit about sleep paralysis. ive been trying to get lucid dreams and i've managed to go into sleep paralysis on purpose like 5 times

Yeah he's always quite vague when it comes to equipment and influences and the overall production aspect. He seems upfront about genres and his music being pigeonholed, but compared to Cosmogramma he didn't seem to have as much to say about his inspiration for Until The Quiet Comes, not that he needs to or anything. I dunno, perhaps I've just seen so many shitty promo interviews lately that this one actually seemed substantive and interesting.

on purpose!? I've found the experience absolutely frightening - lucid dreaming and logging dreams is enjoyable though, need to get back in that habit
