Thanks, joshuatx, for sharing that interview. I also agree with his remarks concerning 'dubstep' and skrillex. Other than that, though, I don't know how helpful the rest of the interview was in terms of shedding light on his intentions.

Yeah he's always quite vague when it comes to equipment and influences and the overall production aspect. He seems upfront about genres and his music being pigeonholed, but compared to Cosmogramma he didn't seem to have as much to say about his inspiration for Until The Quiet Comes, not that he needs to or anything. I dunno, perhaps I've just seen so many shitty promo interviews lately that this one actually seemed substantive and interesting.

great interview, i like the bit about sleep paralysis. ive been trying to get lucid dreams and i've managed to go into sleep paralysis on purpose like 5 times

on purpose!? I've found the experience absolutely frightening - lucid dreaming and logging dreams is enjoyable though, need to get back in that habit

Wake up.

Love the interview, couldn't care less about the new album. There's none of the energy of LA or even Cosmo. There isn't a single track I want to hear again after listening to the album. And I'm pretty tired of the low-fi pseudo-glitchy textures. Frankly, it sounds uninspired to me.

srry completely irrelevant to the album but... isn't FlyLo always talking about how some peeps are ripping off his sound?

Los Angeles came out in 2008, the song "Camel" samples either Amon Tobins' - "Saboteur" from 2000, or the same source as Tobin.

-5 points lol

Still liking the new album though, great work in my opinion. Seems like all the really good albums coming out lately are short though, less than 50 minutes... =/

that's weird he'd be complaining about people ripping off his sound when his label (with a few exceptions) is essentially a bunch of Flying Lotus proteges who emulate his style. If you were so concerned about that happening it might seem like a good idea to expand the style/direction of Brainfeeder. Not a complaint just an observation

You're absolutely right.

my problem with flying lotus is how unoriginal I find him. he sounds like he loved early Amon tobin. nothing wrong with it but he gets so much praise for originality yet I find him completely derivative of late 90s/early 00 ninja tune and prefuse type stuff as well.

but I still enjoy him

Yeah man I hear that, same thing I was thinking. Thats when I noticed the "camel" and tobins "saboteur" similarity... knew it sounded familiar!

I want to destroy my computer screen when I read people saying that Amon Tobin sampled Camel.

I'm pretty sure you read it backwards. I clearly said that FlyLo sampled Tobin.

Tobin's "Saboteur" was released in 2000. FlyLo's "Camel" was released in 2008.

Chronology matters son.

I wasn't referring to your post, I was referring to the rest of the internet. I've seriously seen people say that Amon Tobin sampled Flying Lotus when that obviously isn't the case.

I've only just started paying attention to the second half of the album. It is actually the better half. Like Nightcaller, awesome track, gettin on some samiyam vibes. Lovely.

Samiyam co-produced Nightcaller.

in detroit he had a screen set up in fron of him as well as behind, and had projectors for each screen. it was amazing and all, but filled with a bunch of really dumb college kids and younger, who all crowded the stage after teebs' set.

teebs' set was actually more enjoyable. i'm a pretty tall guy, and people were being pretty hostile towards me because of it, so i had a flash back to my moshpit days and really started pushing people off of me. you shouldn't have to do that at a flying lotus show.

he had his mpd32 set up, but all he used it for was a kick set to pad number 1 that he would hit over and over and then say "how are yall doin?" i have some videos.

wow what song is that? any idea?
