I don't think he's the second coming. But flylo happens to have all of the elements that I like in music... The vocals, thundercat on the bass (he's the bassist from suicidal tendencies! Whom I also enjoy but for diff reasons)... plus a fair amount of electronics and warped effects. I also enjoy the fusion elements (a big part of why I enjoy squarepusher) and, at least with cosmogramma, the album felt very organic, whatever that means.

But people that are saying it's straight up garbage are either trolling, musically inept, or 5 years old.

I didn't think any of the beats presented in the previews sounded that good or hypeworthy. obviously still going to listen to the album more than 99% of whats come out this year.

At first I didn't like the Putty Boy track BUT when the bass kicked in…Whoah that was great.

Also the video is beautiful - especially the end.

the only tune on the album i'm not too keen of

cyriak inspired tune on a cyriak made vid, so it seems. melody feels to fruityloops randomness, such as all cyriak stuff. :p

lots of tracks seem to be a cosmogramma track 2

no huge improvement or evolution in sound

not as big of a deal as cosmogramma or la im thinking for now, still some good listening (4th time actually)

I thought Cosmogramma was under-developed (an idea had time to blossom under 10 seconds) but still cut through because the ideas were so otherworldly - this album here has VERY nice sounds but it just doesn't get through to me. Clark, Flying Lotus, Nathan Fake and many more should look at their work in 2011/2012 and think about why they mellowed out so much. It is like an epidemic. Very nice production but fuck if this really touched me. I need more edge-cutting sounds. Not just endless electronic gun sound effects but also strange build-ups and instruments. This has a lot of Thundercat bass and a lot of voices but not a lot of Fly Lo going batshit behind the machines like he used to. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about an artist developing in new ways but this means you should take everything you thought it belonged to you and just take it to the next level. Not take just the mellowed out parts and not even finish them proper. I hope this one is a grower. I actually think it is. But still - damn, Fly Lo, this shit is too cleaned up.

EDIT: and what the fuck is up with the Thom Yorke track? Why even call it a feat? It started out like a Samiyam beat but then it strung out and then I hear a lot of voices which should belong to Thom - nothing much to grab on.

I feel just about the opposite in every way. I expected it to be poor ... right now I think it's better than Cosmogramma. It's more spacey. Less hyper, less choppy. Maybe less interesting, less experimental... but possibly more evocative and futuristic.

Definitely way more stripped down either way.

I let the album play and I layed on my bed. I listened through to Only If You Wanna wich made me feel really good and relaxed, then I fell asleep.

It's definitely not a step in the more adventurous or exciting direction, at all. At the same time it's also not sellout crap... it's a chill record to play on your stereo, leave on in the background mostly. Ambient in approach. Good groove music.
