Here is him saying everyone "copycats" him:

"There have been a lot of copycats but I knew if I made it as personal as possible then no one could copy it. It makes me feel kind of naked though (laughs).

What’s the copycat thing? Your sound is quite distinctive, but after a couple of releases people have had time to get used to it. Is it your sound specifically that people are copying or just a new style of music that’s emerged?

I don’t know man, maybe if you don’t hear it then it’s just me. I think it’s pretty obvious, I’m grateful people like what I’m doing but they don’t have to try and copy my last record."

You must not listen to him much or read his tweets if you've never made that connection, not my problem dude. He's one of those dudes that hates newcomers and will go out of his way to step on the little guy just starting out. A lot of his stuff is very subtle though. It's also embedded in his language as well, he refers to all other people making this kind of music as "kids." Which I am reading now in many different interviews.

"Pitchfork: Has it changed for better or for worse in some ways?

FL: Well, I feel like a lot of kids, a lot of halfway kids, come out here, kids who started making beats six months ago, thinking they can get on stage because their drums are off. This kind of stuff annoys me"

One collaboration with Odd Future is too much. More collaberations are in the works, via interview with Complex

"Are you doing any more tracks with Odd Future?

I'm talking with a few other dudes like Domo [Genesis] "

And he states Odd Future is an inspiration to him..... That's just sad.

"Who are you listening to in particular that's inspired you?

...And obviously Odd Future, those are my peoples, and all the A$AP kids."

I once was a Flylo fan, in a galaxy far far away.

Same as you my friend. I've never done such a drastic u-turn on an artist in my life. I guess seeing him live, dressed head to toe in a white suit, prancing around behind a laptop, while shouting out the most stupid inane things I have ever heard in my life didn't help. Hahah, it's almost laughable. What a joke.

It's funny how some people often utilize irrelevant aspects not related to music to emphasize how they hate the music.

"i really am not sure about this guy's tunes... wait, is that a white suite?! god damn, this guy is definitely a terrible musician"

Oh sorry I forgot to add the icing on the cake, the music he played was shit too. Happy now?

well I'm glad that I haven't ever had much interest in what he has to say, I just listen to the music, nuff said.

this, and i'm surprised some people here don't like his sound as much as they did just a couple years ago, but everyone is entitled to liking/disliking whatever i guess

The copycat thing is annoying, not necessarily coming out of Flying Lotus's mouth, but the whole subject in general. Glitch Hop existed before Flying Lotus started making beats in 2005. I will say that Flying Lotus might have put the Los Angeles sound on the map but people aren't copying him. He has a distinct sound. The last thing I need is Flying Lotus fans telling me about how my favorite Experimental Hip Hop producers are Flying Lotus clones, but it happens almost everyday.

The Odd Future deal is irrelevent, who cares? It has nothing to do with his own music.

You sound like the people who are starting to dislike Kendrick Lamar because he's working with Lady Gaga, or Kanye West because he's going to work with Skrillex. If small crap like that makes you no longer a fan of a certain musician I'm not sure if you could call yourself a fan or a prior fan at all.

Beerwolf, pretty much all electronic music is shit live, so you can't really hold that against him. At least I don't. The performance aspect of it is never, ever there with electronic musicians as much as seeing a great band. On the other hand, Autechre's live music is absolutely mindblowing (saw them on Quaristice tour), but playing in a pitch black room is not my idea of a great live music experience no matter how you dress it up. It all comes down to what they deliver on the actual record and FlyLo has pretty much nailed it there.

His ego may be a little bit inflated, but I'm still a huge fan of his music... He should just remember that glitch-hop and instrumental hip-hop existed before he did. If anything he owes credit to J Dilla, Madlib, and Prefuse 73

this is simply not as true as it used to be, although there have been plenty of exceptions along the way

If he thinks certain musicians are biting him he should air it out, not so much to name & shame but letting the court of public/individual opinion decide whether he's egotistically delusional or has legit beef. Prefuse was exactly like this a while back and it derailed him into mediocrity for a while. Shut piehole, focus on making good music, everything else falls into place.

I really can't say I know who Odd Future are but they appear to be some kool kieth wannabe crew for the young'uns... don't mind him collaborating with them though sofar as the output is decent.

Wrong and wrong. People like Daedelus put LA on the map for that kind of sound. NOT Flying Lotus.

And I do believe who you work with matters, for instance- Hudson Mohawke + Lunice. Lunice's bereft of any real creativity style has fucked with Hudmo's full of bang soul / electro feel. He's even admitted it, that he didn't think he'd be making just plain beats like this and that it feels weird leaving the underground scene.
