Nobody else gonna comment on this? Fake or what?

No clipping on wav 24bit files according to Reaper.

  1. Open Reaper, open Media Explorer
  2. Navigate to ae live wav 24bit dir; select all files
  3. Right-click on one file, choose "Calculate peak volume and loudness (LUFS-I) for media"
  4. Wait
  5. Result

They all reach a peak of either 0 or -0.1 dBFS. The Lyon set is the loudest of them all according to its LUFS integrated, yeah baby.

I briefly checked the Lyon mp3 and yes, it does clip at around +0.6. As others have suggested, it's highly likely that the wav to mp3 conversion has caused this. I reckon this definitely isn't a problem with the music but instead it exposes how flawed the mp3 format is HA.

i havent checked every single one but the Lyon flac doesn't clip anywhere. the mp3s are probably the only files affected and even then i doubt you'd notice it

Mp3 is a lossy format and will often clip a non-clipping source once transcoded.

The 24bit files don’t clip as far as I can tell (haven’t listened yet in the studio, just headphones so far).

i listened in the studio, dynaudio BM6a MK1.  there's so much detail and clarity in the recordings it's deep. can almost hear that there's 2 people doing stuff at times.. in the more sparse moments. i've not been able to notice this before. it's sometimes clear there are 2 sources being mixed then it all becomes one thing when the tracks get more complex.. it all glues together. it's intense. fkcn "sysex demon" and "we don't need a gardener" are masters of the thing they do.. as if it needs to be said again for the nth time.

I'm surprised no-one's asked why there's a few milliseconds gap at the beginning of the MP3s…

MP3s show clipping in Audacity often when they are not clipping.  It's just a problem with detection due to the db boost the files get from the conversion process.

It's a none issue.  Use your ears, clipping is obvious.

Wait how come the 888 would sound cleaner than just recording digital vinyls in the box? Just because it has really nice magic preamps that add some colour, or what? Or do they mix analog?

i think that each laptop goes analog out to the 888 and is mixed then goes to the front of house PA. so, before, they were using a mackie mixer? or whatever so mixing through the mackie and recording from that to small tascam or whatever it was.. so, the 888 has high end everything so sounds better. they record on that digitally but the outputs of their computer interfaces are still analog -> mixed/recorded in 888 which also outputs to front of house analog?  i think.. isnt' that what he said..

I wonder if they using the original USB cable for it because the cable that came with the Killamix was totally crap. I can just tap on it and it will disconnect.

"The mp3s are clipping" fuck off. I can't stand people like that and there's always one. Infected the whole thread.

fyi you can do View>Show Clipping in Audacity and red lines will show up if something is clipped. in case you dont already know

ae's generally been pretty loud since like elseq i think

also if you look at the entire hour+ zoomed out like that it looks a bit worse than it is imo

no, it's ~2600 clipped samples, and that's only for the mp3s, again likely because of some default encoding setting. the lossless files don't clip at all (i believe)

Autechre buys recorder for $10.000 so they can release mp3 files that are clipping ☠️
