Would be nice if Nintendo catered to something other than casual/party gamers now...

it's weird that only 15 years ago everybody i knew was pretty much 'casual gamer' besides people who played RPGs. The industry was smart turning virtually every console game ever into a quasi RPG where you must play it for a long time, makes people feel as if they get their money's worth.

Seriously Portal 2 is SO fucking good. I wish I could spoil everything but that would be a dick move. But seriously there's lots of stuff you won't see coming.

And the co-op. I don't think there is anything that comes close to the co-op in Portal 2. It's just so satisfying.

Good to hear. Did you finish the single player yet? Would you say it is longer and more developed than portal 1?

Just finished it a few minutes ago. Yeah man it's a hell of a lot longer. In an interview they said it was over twice the length and that sounds about right. Man the ending was soooo insane. Will not spoil shit though. Yeah it's just a much more thorough package than portal 1 was. Also I found that the difficulty was just right. There were only a few times where I considered going on gamefaqs but I never had to. If you just break everything down you can eventually figure out what to do.

Also the dialog in this game was hilarious.

A++++++ game would play again. And I'm going to, right now.

except me cause I will get bored very quickly. I hate stats. Even the shop and weapon upgrade system in Dead Space turns me off.

edit: is there a PS3 demo of Portal 2 yet? I won't buy it any time soon, too expensive (although probably worth it)

Amnesia - I can't really stomach horror games, but this is very good. Will be quite a challenge to finish.

Shadow of the Colossus - Running emulated in PCSX2. Still some slow-downs on a high-budget machine, apparently you need raw single core GHz and my 3.06GHz is still not enough. Maybe I'll try and overclock a little. But it's playable and hasn't crashed yet. (this guy got it running pretty smooth at 2560x1792:

) Incredible game.

Nice. Hopefully the ps3 HD remake that comes out end of this year looks at least as good as that vid. It should, smoother animation and framerate hopefully.

strangely enough I'm the same way. I hate RPGs generally, yet I'm obsessed with nethack for some reason(explains my avatar). Actually on my way to a third win of it right now.

EDIT: I was hoping it would combine my posts, I've seen it happen before when i posted twice with quick succession.

Did some of you guys ever played to Supreme Commander ? I love this game and the huge scale strategics it allows.

I'm thinking about it these days because when I used to play it I was sad my brother didn't want to play with me. He liked to bother me saying the game sucked. During the Starcraft 2 beta he got two keys to participate and gave me one, so we began to play together, and we continued to do so until one or two months.

The other day, my brother told me that eventually he thought that Supreme Commander could be a good game, which meant that with Starcraft II he learnt to really like and understand strategy games, and now he realize why Supreme Commander kicks ass.

The legendary bad faith of little bros.

Can't wait to spend the holidays at my parents home to make some insane games with him !

Damn it, I bought a used copy of a supposed GTA IV Complete Edition online for 5 euro. Turns out it's only regular GTA IV. Had a feeling it was too good to be true. 5 euro is still a very good deal, and I never played normal GTA IV before, but it's annoying.

Does anyone know whether there are extra environments for the complete edition? Cause a friend of mine swears there are, but I can't find any evidence for that anywhere. I don't really care about the extra storyline, I just drive around with the awesome radio stations and mess stuff up. But extra areas would be a different thing.

Is there really a point to running a game at a ridiculously high rez that was designed for 720x576 (or NTSC standard of you're in the US)? Textures won't get more detailed, you'll see more pixels, only the polygons have sharper edges. SD can actually make some things look smoother. Ever wondered why some older games look better on a regular TV than on pc (unless of course your definition of better means, visible polygons and more aliasing, then PC looks better) ?

Gay Tony was definitely much more enjoyable than the Biker one. Base-jumping is a lol and the action scenes just went crazy in the latter levels.

Yeah man, if the story was a little larger it'd be amazing. Gay Tony was pretty much the definitive GTA4. I still can't get past a mission where you're in the nightclub on the balcony and guys keep rushing in, even with body armour and sick weapons they seem to never stop coming at you and there's nowhere to get good cover.

Mhh ... what do I do now? It's a private seller, is he obliged to provide me the version he advertised?

Then again, I didn't buy it myself as I didn't have an 18+ verified account on that page and couldn't see the product info, so my friend bought it for me, for all I know, the URL contains no mention of "complete edition". I asked him multiple times whether it's the right version, plus he's the one who recommended me the complete edition in the first place. But maybe he got fooled by the picture, which I'm not sure is a guarantee for the actual product.

Technically all you say is spot on. Though I've got a PS3 running through a spangley full-HD TV through an HDMI cable and I have to say the posted video of the up-scaled emulated version of Shadow Of the Colossus looks so much better than what I get through my TV. It shouldn't (for the reasons you mentioned), though somehow it does !

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

You don't get more texture detail up close no. But you do get more texture (and geometry) detail in the distance.

Displaying at lower resolutions can look better than HD when SD resolutions are upscaled to HD without smoothing or when second-grade antialiasing solutions are used to get better framerates/save memory. So for some games an upscale of lower resolutions can look better than higher resolutions with shitty anti-aliasing. (for example: GTAIV on PS3 is rendered at lower resolutions than on the 360 but the upscaling gives it a smoother look)

But if you render (native, so no upscaling) at high resolutions, aliasing becomes less of a problem. On top of that you can add anti-aliasing in PCSX2. So yes, I think the video I posted looks vastly better and more detailed than SotC on SD. SotC was a game that really pushed the limits of the PS2, so I'm sure they can make it look very up to date with the HD update.

On Starcraft 2 they have this new custom game called "Mafia" that's based off the Mafia party game. I was on that shit all day yesterday.. So fun/addicting.

Beat Magicka yesterday. Liked it a lot. I can't afford Portal 2 as of now.

Edit: My brother deleted my fucking character. I think I'm going to kill him.

I wasn't aware of that. But shouldn't that be due to running it on a more powerful machine? It would also mean it's fucking with the engine wouldn't it? If the fog is set to be in 80 meter distance, then it's gonna be in 80 meter distance. It's a console game after all and these settings are gonna be normed for sure. So it must be the emulator, which again should be able to do the same trick (with even better performance) for SD.

I can't even judge from the video cause my PC is too slow to play back a 1080p youtube video. Fail, I know.

edit: I just got what you meant. I thought you were saying it enlarges the viewable distance, but you were probably talking about details that are being displayed anyway but missed in smaller rez. That of course is possible and a good point actually.

So I spoke to him and he DID buy the regular version after all. Logic? I don't know. But it's still cheap so, GTA, yay!

I'll have to wait until I get paid at the end of the month before I can pick up Portal 2. Can't wait to play it though. The first one was awesome, and judging by thehauntingsoul's remarks, Portal 2 is better. So I'll get it for sure, just not right away.
