FWIW, fallout 3 would run on PC hardware that bioshock wouldn't (fallout doesn't use cell shader 3)

it's almost certainly the same for new vegas

Im'a go and get Portal 2 today. And maybe something else. Got myself £130 of HMV vouchers burning a hole and all the music I want they don't ever seem to have.

If you've got a console and you like fighting games I can HIGHLY recommend Mortal Kombat. Been playing it a crazy amount the last couple of days, can't believe how good it is!

i saw footage from it recently, and it kinda looks like a return to form. shame there's no PC version though :( would like to have a bash on it

It's the best MK since 2, probably better than 2 to be honest. The fighting engine is great, it's absurdly violent, there's so much content in the game it's unreal. IE: It's a fighting game worth dropping some buck on.

To be fair though, fighting games don't really work on PC, I'm not too surprised there isn't a PC version.

they were fine back in the day with MK1 through to MK3, but yeah it wasn't really great using a keyboard.

good thing that you can just plug an xbox 360 controller into a PC and use it right away.

been thinking about getting one for the GTA games, but not at £50. will probably get an American friend to buy one for me and send it over if i do decide to get one.

heres the PC specs im working with...would they work and not make the game excruciatingly slow?

cuz if its doable im on it...but i doubt sometimes...

AMD Athalon II P340 Dual Core Processor

3.00 GB of RAM

AMD 880 G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD4250

would that work? at least make it bearable (one thing i hate most about pc games is when they get choppy)

i had a comparable integrated ATI card the first time i played it - if you lower the detail it should be fine. the only problem i couldn't fix was choppy radio stations.

Anyway, I am only at the very beginning of GTA IV and haven't seen very much, but to me it made sense to assume the developers don't put all the shitty stuff at the start.

the sstart of GTA4 is fucken horrible.

its a hard game to recommend because the start of the game is just really really bad. the characters/story is boring and frustrating. the gameplay is horrible (takes about 20 missions before you can do target practice with a crappy pistol), they force you to go on dates with some chick.

the pacing is slow, but.. once you actually get into the pew pew gun missions and the story kicks off, the game gets really good.

i absolutely loved gta3, vice city and san andreas (LOVED san andreas), but i think GTA4 is the better game in the end. you just have to give it a chance : )

For the Valve fans here. I can recommend The Final Hours of Portal 2 which is available for iPad. It's a long and deep look behind the scenes of Valve.

If you dont have an iPad, I might be able to help you out. ;)

i think controllers + large tvs + comfy chairs situated in living room + surround sound theater system is a lot nicer and more immersive of an experience than sitting on the computer clacking the keys. you can also play with people and / or watch people etc.

the trade off of having slightly lower resolution graphics is worth it for those things imo.

but this is solvable by using an hdmi cable and wireless keyboard+mouse/other type of controller

But... there's no large HDTV that can go higher than 1920x1080 on resolution... that's the same as console games can produce. I lol heartily at 'pc superiority'

I've recently rediscovered Parodius for the NES. Playing it on an emulator, despite owning a NES and a copy of the game.

You mean for the Famicom, right? the US NES never had Parodius released for it...

i believe that Rhombix is from the UK, which would explain his statement

i was more referring to there being a game called Parodius released in Europe that seems to differ from the one that Joyrex is talking about

  Wikipedia said:
Parodius has been ported to a number of platforms, most notably the SNES/Super Famicom (which was also released in Europe) and the PC Engine. The game was also ported on the NES/Family Computer (also released in Europe) with several stages omitted but with a new amusement park stage as well as several hidden bonus stages.

In theory, but no high budget console games run at native 1920x1080. (even GT5 runs at 1280x1080) Most of them barely manage 720p.

Guest awkwardsilence

Yeah, most HD console games are being rendered at one resolution, then internally upscaled to 720p/1080p.

A good PC can also bring improved framerates to the table, and the more natural motion and deeper immersion that brings.

After completing Portal 1&2.. i'm still trying to force myself through Crysis 2.

But it's a horrible game to be honest. The gameplay/controls are really frustrating, and the story and caracteres are dull as fuck.

I know that stories and caracteres are usually forgettable in these types of military shooters.. But it's just horrific in this game. I have no idea what's going on in the storyline, and the dialouge just seems to consist of a bunch of stupid US marines yelling and giving you orders through their headsets.. "Alcatraz, DO EVERYTHING!"

Only thing that keeps me going, is because it looks so good.

I wish every game were as good as Portal 2 *sigh*

Ah, interesting - I didn't know the UK had the NES... thought they started off with the Super NES/Super Famicom and before that had Spectrums and other consoles that UK GOLD would make endless crappy arcade ports for.

And it's the same game - sounds like they edited out the more suggestive stuff in some of the levels for the UK audience.

Hah - was it really called UK Gold in America ?! Over here it was known as US Gold:

Yeah the UK censors were notorious for censorship of anything Nintendo based back in the day.

EDIT: Although saying that the US didn't really get off lightly either - http://www.gamesradar.com/f/nintendo-banned-in-the-usa/a-20090722105344976067

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

found out that you gotta jump through steam and drm hoops just to play F:NV on PC....fuck this, seriously, fuck this.

is there anyone left that actually thinks DRM is beneficial in anyway?

promote and uphold steam all you want, but if i buy a fucking game on hardcopy, I shouldn't have to go online and register all this BS, ESPECIALLY if its a single player game.

I agree. Steam integration should, at most, be optional for hardcopy games. That's really fucked up actually, sorry bro, should have bought it for ps3.

Guest AcrossCanyons

been playing Neo Geo Battle Coliseum (xbla) - holy shit is this one of the the hardest games I've played. the bosses are IMPOSSIBLE. when you die and continue on the arcade mode you have an option to knock the opponents' health down t 1/4 and I STILL can't beat one of the bosses (and I haven't even got up to another one who is even more difficult).

but what a great game. wish there were people playing it online but it's dead as dead can be. don't suppose anyone here has it?

luckily i found that out before i purchased it.

im tempted to find a torrent, its like WTF DRM makes legit buyers not want to buy it anymore...its the most inane system imaginable...i dont even understand how the market still uses this as a common practice.

reward torrenters by not having to go through hoops, punish the buyer by making them go through hoops.

where the fuck is Milton Friedman on this nonsense?

you bought it, so as far as i'm concerned you have the right to download a cracked version now to circumvent all the drm/steam bullshit
