what does this say for HL2:Ep3?

I can see why Newell is so fond of the 'games as a service' idea. Updating games continuously and adding extra services like community contributions are a good way to keep a game alive and it'll make it harder to pirate because you'll need to upgrade and jump through very hard loopholes to enjoy the extra services. I'm not a fan of the Team Fortress 2 model, but I haven't really gotten into that game either. And I don't think community contributions have been made easy enough in L4D2, I need to download maps manually with a browser? Counter-Strike had automatic map downloading for years. Same with Portal, there is an immense potential for people to share custom maps but there seems to be no infrastructure to support it.

I'm also a bit unsure about micropayment/DLC routes. Maybe they should do some kind of Valve subscription. Newell is obviously very jealous of the imperium Blizzard have been able to create and I think he'd like to try similar things with non-MMO games.

although two things give me hope - done with episodic content? that to me sounds like hl2:ep3 will be a solid 8-9 hours of gameplay rather than 4ish like eps1 and 2. and in another interview lately gabe said something like 'portal and hl2 were always envisioned to exist in the same universe. to do that and not have the protagonists meet would be cheating our userbase'.

I was thinking about running through Warcraft 3 + Expansion, but I could never get passed the second campaign. I kept trying to play it like Starcraft 2 though instead of making a well rounded group.

i play tf2 on the xbox 360 and was mad jelous when the pc version starting getting all these updates but I'm glad I don't have to deal with any of that hat shit etc. the barebones game is perfect as it is.

I really hope they just stop updating tf2 and let it die. It's gone to shit so many times, to the point where it's just a worthless, bloated game, raping all of my good memories of it before they started ruining it.

That said I should get back into griefing tfc.

With PSN still down I'm playing Two Worlds 2. LA Noire comes out in a week so I hope to finish TW2 by that time. If anyone else here has TW2 for PS3, we should totally do the multiplayer campaign once PSN comes back on.

I also ordered Dungeon Siege 3 for PS3. Can't wait.

the userbase is so huge that there isn't a hope of them letting it die.

besides, they've talked about the fact the use it as a testbed to test out new concepts (like... hats ) many times.

Test Drive Unlimited 2, Forza 3 Ultimate Collection, Call of Duty Black Ops, Bioshock, Halo Reach.

F:NV: i think im lvl 11 and about to head into New Vegas for the first time...lovin this as much as Fallout 3..got a couple of cool modded guns, about 50 stimpaks and 4000 caps...lets roll suckas

Been waiting for this announcement for ages it feels like. Hopefully it will be as good as Blood Money was.

Mortal Kombat is incredible. 2 days in and I'm still a bit rubbish but getting somewhere with Cyrax.

He has said this. But that doesn't mean that it won't follow directly after the events of episode 2. It's just a title for the game. The reason people say "give me episode 3!" is because they want to find out what happens after the end of episode 2, not because they want it to be called an "episode" per se. Personally, I hope it does start where episode 2 left off.
