Reveal hidden contents i thought the book was kinda critical of the father, since he'd been paranoid about everyone, thinking that there was no one good anywhere, and as soon as he dies some good people that had been observing decide to take in the kid. it's like the father was trying to prepare the kid to fight in the world alone but he was actually keeping them away from a group of good people who couldn't trust the father. and it was also a bit ambiguous, because you never saw the woman or kids. and then in the movie it was just like "whoops what a happy coincidence, and see, there actually is a woman who will love you, what a lovely hollywood ending yay" but i thought the movie was a very good adaptation, as far as adaptations go. awepittance
MiddleMen - starring luck wilson and giovoni ribisi , starts off trying to be like an internet porn version of the Social Network and then degenerates into a bad version of the movie Wonderland. IF i could give any movie the label of 'frankenscript' it would have to be this movie. It literally felt like the studio had 2 movies in the que and decided to mashup the scripts together. 5/10 Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/43385-a-few-films-recently-watched/page/280/#findComment-1525336 Share on other sites

Reveal hidden contents yeah, i thought the movie was a bit lighter on the guy, but i kind of liked that. i mean paranoia in a world where probably 9 out of 10 people you meet would seriously consider eating you is kind of natural... i didn't think it explored what the father saw as his greatest faults - the whole idea that he would tell his kid these stories about the world before the disaster, but the kid only knows the world after the disaster. filling his head with ideas and stories and fantasies that will never come true, or whatever. as for the end, it was definitely a bit sappier than the book, what with the dog and kids, but the book does talk about him meeting the woman, mentions her teaching him to "talk to god," but god never answers back, but his father does. i think one of my favourite things about the end, though, was just how butt-ugly those people were. i mean viggo mortensen is pretty goddamn hot even emaciated scruffy and with wrinkles (hell, he could even pull off an awful mustache in those flashback scenes) and that kid was just downright angelic for the life he'd lived, but that family, oh man. that's what post-apocalyptic people look like. hah. but yeah, one of the best book adaptations i've seen, i think. which doesn't REALLY say a lot. anyways i just snagged "house," the 1977 japanese horror flick, not the show. i've heard... interesting things. looking forward to it. TiffanyHalderman
I dunno, 30 rock has this grating way of attempting to force dry humor at the same time as being endearing. Community does this to, and I think what you refer to as 'heart' I interpret as 'trying way too hard.' That being said, I still watch all of the Thursday night comedies, but I honestly feel that Parks and Recreation is the only show of the bunch that is worth watching. All the others seem to have to many in-jokes and self referential comedy.
