Barry Lyndon - 10/10

A masterpiece adorned with Stanley Kubrick's trademark perfection. The three-hour duration of the film is easily carried by an engaging story that moves you with every twist and turn. I can barely describe the amazing, riveting abundance of cinematic beauty that is this film's atmosphere.

Every second of this film is made up of 24 frames that could stand alone as magnificent works of art. Kubrick is well known for his talent of shooting picture-perfect scenes. The 18th century setting of the film introduced a dilemma - there is no artificial lighting. Kubrick, however, embraced this dilemma and created breathtaking scenes lit entirely by candlelight.

This is easily one of Kubrick's finest films, up there with The Shining and 2001: A Space Odyssey. I have no idea why it isn't as well-known, because it deserves to be.

Barry Lyndon rubbed me the wrong way when I first put it on, and I just couldn't get into the vibe, so I only watched maybe half an hour of it. I'm giving it another watch, eventually, of course.

Blitz 7/10 pretty decent Brit film even tho Jason Statham is just playing the same hard nut

Fastest 5/10 shitty acting

I was gonna watch Paranormal Activity 2 even though my friend warned me about how shitty it was but I ended up watching an even shittier movie called "Paranormal ENTITY" that disguised itself as Paranormal Activity 2.

Not that I plan to continue watching this but there's "Meet the Spartans" on German tv right now and I've seen about 15 minutes of it ... Somehow I feel as though, no matter how hard we tried, us Germans couldn't ever come up with something THIS bad.

I'm watching every episode of Trailer Park Boys chronologically. Living in Atlantic Canada I'm pretty much legally required to.

You can't go wrong with that.

trailer park boys was a big surprise to me, i literally thought it was an american show (my first mistake) about trailer trash southern people or something, like a terribly cheesy satire of trailer people but it's Canadian which eliminates any of the cliches that an american show of a similar nature would have. It's become one of my favorite shows as of late, and i only just watched the first episode last month

it was a big suprise to me too in that i couldnt get through one episode

way too much shaky cam

I'm interested, can't get enough of "shaky cam" - what is it (please no details about the story) ?

edit: that Attack The Block trailer does look kinda so-so. Probably about as funny as F.A.Q. About Time Travel, which was also so-so.

Basically, there's a zombie apocalypse, and the story focuses on the people in the Big Brother house. These people have been chosen specifically to not get on well with each other (thus creating conflict and entertainment) and now they must cooperate with each other to survive.

Personally, I thought the ending was spectacular.

Film binge yesterday:

Gamer: 2 or 7 out of 10.

I'm so conflicted by this film, it's obviously a massive load of shit through and through, but I really enjoyed it. It believes so firmly in its premise that you can kind of get along with it. It's nothing special of course, but as a sort of spastic imagining of a future obsessed with current gaming and social networking trends I could totally believe it. It's one of those films I think could have benefitted from a more serious, less action oriented approach with less juvenile directors but fuck it. I both like and hate this film.

The Final Destination: 1 out of 10.

This film mortified me completely. Is this what horror films have become these days!? It's embarassingly shit! And people go to watch this garbage!

The acting was abysmal, the plot was vomit, the CGI was pathetic... It's another premise that could be half decent being utterly wasted by hollywood senssibilities. I hope all the makers of this film die in freak occurrences.

Ip Man: 8 out of 10.

Been getting back into martial arts flicks these days and this is a really good one. Some tightly choreographed fight scenes and good acting here, the plot is nothing special but it's concise and enjoyable throughout. Just a really solid film, plus I think Donnie Yen is triff.

Halloween (Rob Zombie remake): 3 out of 10.

Michael Myers used to scare the shit out of me as a kid so I was willing to give this a bit of a chance, as much as I hate remakes. I've not seen another Rob Zombie film but he's not all that good at building suspense is he? Half of the film you can't see what's going on due to it being overly dark and all the fucking shakycam.

The beginning section was okay, but let down by overacting. The one area I'll give Zombie credit for is his ability to take horror seriously, even if he's not very good.

Oh and all the screaming! Fuck this movie.

Without spoiling it's like a 2000's Jackie Chan "only for HK" type movie but with a blue/orange HDR filter. It's specially disappointing because the first one was godlike.

Super 8 I kinda liked it, not as good as the movies from the 80s its trying to be like, but it was still a nice flick to watch

pretty good, 6 or weak 7/10. i really don't get the poster though, it makes the movie out to be something completely different than it really is. looks like some robert rodriguez exploitation flick, when it's actually a pretty down to earth drama.
