oh I read that they cut 30 minutes of a satanic orgy on EH, would love to see that lost footage.

The blood orgy was definitely the most memorable scene for me, though I suspect part of why it was effective is because we only see split second shots of nasty stuff going down.

Yeah for me too, totally took me by surprise as I never imagined the astronauts were still being tortured in hell. It is so fucking stupid to censor this because a focus group didn't like the violence! are we talking tooth paste or a horror movie here.

Totally forgot last time:

Happy Go Lucky (Mike Leigh)

7/10

To be honest I would never ever hang out with that woman in real life but after Another Year (which is a black hole) I knew I couldn't take this director for granted so I guess your reaction to her is a reflection of how well rounded and happy you are or able to take control of your outlook on life and circumstances or whatever. Deep stuff.

Night and Fog (Alain Resnais)

10/10

Another classic. They play this short movie (30 minutes and available on youtube) for kids in France and for good reason. Serious, respectful and brutal documentary on the concentration camps in WWII with extraordinary narration. I didn't understand Godard's hatred for the way the war is treated in Spielberg / Hollywood films but now I get it. I love that it's not fixated with the Shoa.

Rise of the planet of the apes or ROTPOTA for short...

Me and You and Everyone We Know (Miranda July)

fast-food/10

Vaguely irritating masturbatory fantasy but I really liked watching John Hawkes. Avoid unless you're into 500 days of Summer, Mike Nichols, Garden State type stuff. Yes it is worthless.

I watched this because I love Garden State and 500 days of summer (say what you want), and it is absolutely nothing like either.

It was quite good but a bit awkward in places, particularly the start and places with the girl. On the other hand the bits with the younger son were great. I also liked the bits with the two girls and the older man but they didn't have much going on - I'd have liked to see more of that.

I watched 127 Hours last night.

6/10

It was fun but dragged a lot. Also, it seems like Fanny Boyle is stuck in the 90s. Stylistically, the movie was a bit tired.

It's tough to pull off a film with one character who is standing in place for 2/3rds of the story. I'll give him that.

The gory bits were well done.

oh, and no offense to the Watmmer Soundwave reading this right now, but fucking SOUNDWAVE WASNT A BOOMBOX

that was probably Bay's most criminal offense.

one more thing I have to get off my chest, and its harsh but true.

if you enjoyed Transformers 3 Revenge of the Metal Fuckwads on the Shitside of the Moon you are mentally retarded. I am serious. If you enjoyed this movie in any sense, whether from an aesthetic or ironic analysis, you are mentally handicapped and are capable of sub-human intelligence.

TF3 is a movie you can watch on drugs and enjoy

I know I did

and I still have no idea what the fuck the movies was about but it looked pretty cool (Bay rules of direction chapter 1, paragraph 1)

better than all the other mindless summer blockbuster CGI movies of the past three years all rolled into one and you'd be a fool to even begin to take this shit seriously

No no it's OK. I just think all those have this air of gentle quirkiness about being young / lonely that really gets on the nerves and feels like a pose if you are not in the mood for it. See: Gigantic. I laughed really hard when that little kid started talking about that and the brother's reaction was awesome and truly genuine. Best part of the movie. She must have got that out of 4chan or something (notice the ASCII art).

IMO Michel Gondry does it correctly in The Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine etc.

X-Men first class: Pretty ok, did the job. 7.5/10

Platoon: never liked Oliver Stone much, still don't. The weakest out of the Vietnam war films I've seen. Charlie Sheen's voice over is really bad. 5/10

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

CSA - The Confederate States of America: 6/10. An interesting idea that seemed to devolve into Chapelle-esque racism because they could. Also I dunno how plausible the ideas were, some of them seemed pretty ridiculous.

Return of the Living Dead - Haven't seen this one in years. 9/10 for what it is, totally awesome tongue in cheek punk rock zombie film. Awesome soundtrack.

diabolique. But I accidentally watched the '96 remake with sharon stone. I just could not get over how dumb of a bitch Mia was. I mean... how fucking dumb can somebody be(just every little thing, like she could never think of the right thing to do, had no courage under stress, and it just wasn't believable at all). It was a good concept, and overall pretty decent despite the 5.1 rating on IMDB, I'd give it a 6.5 I'll try to get the 1955 version this time lol.

Movies I Watched Recently

A. The Thin Red Line

this was the 3rd time I've tried to watch it.

1st time: made it 30 minutes in. Score: 4/10

2nd time: made it 20 minutes in. Score: 4/100

3rd time: finished it. Score: 9/10

Good movie, I gave it a 9/10 so by now you know. I think I hated Malik before and now I am absolutely down with him. This was a great film, how great I'm not sure.

B. The Verdict on Auschwitz

8/10

C. Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer

People watch this and masturbate to the murders. Not me, I turned it off. Pathetic film.

D. eXistenz

A mix of Videodrome and Naked Lunch. A good to great film, certainly a bit flawed. Too violent.

i can't argue with thinking it's not a good film, but it's actually on the better end of the spectrum as far as movies made about vietnam go. I'd say it's the best one by Oliver Stone, the other 2 movies in his vietnam trilogy are way more heavy handed heart tugging

i'm sad that the guy who directed/wrote this and who created the Alien universe and characters only did a meager amount of films, he was a really talented guy

holy crap i didnt realize he wrote Total Recall, that explains why it's so damn good. Paul Verhoven and him should have done another movie together

well I guess I agree it's better than born on the 4th of July...though I'm not sure. I recently rewatched that one too...Actually I take that back, I think I like born on the 4th better, but they're both really flawed. 4th has the south of the border stuff with willem dafoe, which I found interesting. I'm also generally more interested in people recovering from fucked up shit, than I am with jungle fantasies. I forget which one is the 3rd one you mentioned :D

As a youngster I never really liked stone and now from an older vantage point I like him less. The only film of his I remember being impressed with when I was 16 or whatever was Salvador. I'd like to see that again to see if it holds up.

But yeah, Platoon is pretty weak. Even as a non-musician I couldn't stand his over-obvious musical cues - he abuses the hell out of adagio for strings, he even has "mystical Asian flute music" play during the village burning scene, lol. Willem Dafoe's death is kind of shocking and good but also seems to me to be lifted from Gallipoli in a way, not to mention the too obvious slow-mo and jesus pose. I actually laughed a bit this time when watching it...

And then there's the magical deus ex machina revenge ending where evil Tom Beringer "gets what's coming to him".

A big bucket o' meh.

I'm currently about halfway through Catch Me if You Can and it's really fun!

i was going to recommend you check out Salvador, it's one of his better films. My favorite of his i think is either Talk Radio or JFK, with Nixon as a close second.

Heaven and Earth is the 3rd part of his Vietnam trilogy, it's about a soldier played by Tommy Lee Jones marrying a Vietnamese women during the war, it's mostly told from her point of view.

I think i agree with you a little bit about Born on the 4th, simply because Tom Cruise is really good in it, and the wheelchair fight scene on the desolate road was lol

I agree that O'Bannon was hugely and sadly underused but I disagree that Paul Verhoeven should have made any more movies after Total Recall.

the white ribbon - fantastic! highly recommended and totally immersive. more of a commentary on the darker side of human nature than a who-dunnit as paranoia and ill-feeling infests a community... really felt like i was watching an old movie... best i've seen in a while.

yeah . i liked the white ribbon a lot

last night i watched Leaving. French drama with Kristin Scott Thomas leaving her family to fuck the baddie from pan's labyrinth. Fastest paced story telling ever. Disappointing... yeah i get the implied fact that she's been in a crappy marriage for years so just fucking off and leaving your kids is COOL and her husband is a cunt but that doesn't make it a good film.
