The Machinist- 9/10

I'm a sucker for 'omg protagonist is insane' psychological thrillers... creepy as fuck, and though I had kinda guessed the ending halfway through, I changed my mind once he started going crazy. Fantastic atmosphere, and Christian Bale fit the part extremely well. I was never bored, and his interactions with others/himself were brilliant. I liked the camera work as well, something I don't normally notice.

What the fuck is with that title? It's so awkward and has the worst flow anything could have. In Germany it's called "Planet of the Apes - PREvolution" which for once is better than the original title. rise OF THE planet OF THE apes, come on ... they could have called it Planet of the Apes Rising, but no.

The camerawork is pretty fantastic, especially when they're at that funfair. And the incredibly creepy soundtrack is noteworthy as well.

True. I don't even plan on seeing it, it just baffles me how a title like this would be chosen for anything ...

Guest Benedict Cumberbatch

the girl who played with fire 0/10

wow that has got to be the most disappointing sequel ever. what a mess. not sure if its a bad book or a bad adaptation but the writing was terrible throughout.

not sure i want to watch the 3rd one now. the synopsis sure makes it sound shit.

i thought this was a planned triology as in its one story but this felt like some tacked on bullshit. her dad? come on! the connection between her dad and her rapist? come on! the burial scene? come on!

disaster. avoid

Las Hurdes (Luis Buñuel)

I can't really parse if the guy is poking fun at the poor villagers? The Internet says this was the first mockumentary ever. I think Buñuel was a communist at the time so this can't really be a complete joke as the text at the end makes it quite serious and poignant.. man, what a director. Killing goats and donkeys in the name of art is not cool though. 30 minutes.

It was a mockumentary, but the intent was not to mock villagers. At the time the film was made, in addition to all the nauseating and silly voice-of-God Grierson documentaries, Lowell Thomas travelogues were very popular and Bunuel was mocking the patronizing, oh-gee-how-quaint attitudes of the bourgeois toward rural villagers.

Yeah, the soundtrack really added to the super creepiness of the movie, though at the end it started to strike me as a bit cheesy.

watched The City of Lost Children again last night 8.75/10

I always found it visually stunning but with the behind the scenes docu. on the dvd bonuses it really reinforces quite how amazing the finished picture is.

hats off

Harry Brown

Enjoyable for a while in a YEAH KILL THE CUNTS kind of way but equally annoying in a cringey MIDDLE CLASS TAKE ON GRITTY REAL LIFE ON THE ESTATES lol kind of way... also became increasingly stupid to the point of LOLWTFJIMMYBBQ

Attack the Block

6/10

Good fun. Kids killing aliens in a London project block. At times it was a bit dull, but all in all, worth watching.

It was kind of fascinating to see this after the recent riots.

The Village- A film it seems that divides people, with equal amounts of 0/10 and 10/10 ratings.

I won't go into it but I thought it was brilliant!

Stalker (Tarkovsky) - 9/10

An excellent, amazing thought-provoking film. A few points really did start to confuse me for a bit but it was all part of what made it so good. I had so many ideas of how the film would end as it progressed but I didn't really think it would end like it did. Bloody brilliant!!!

:doge: Jet fuel can't melt dank memes :doge:

cold fish - 9/10, don't want to spoil too much, but it felt like a mix of polanski and full blown japanese crazy. this puts that recent korean stuff to shame, take notice squee ! the same director did the amazing "love exposure" btw.

Chronological. And it's the movies I've watched since January 1st of this year. I am keeping track for some reason.
